honorifics consistency

I mean it's pretty clear just how horrid the "translation" from this line alone, together with its voiceover.

I should have asked for a refund but alas this VN has been running in my background for over 5 hours.

This is exactly what I was looking for coming in here. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ honorifics, not even once. Yet another VN not worth looking out for, thanks man.

nah, I don't have a problem in either retaining honorifics or not. but please, for the love of God:

HAVE SOME CONSISTENCY. EITHER YOU REMOVE THEM COMPLETELY OR RETAIN THEM COMPLETELY.

I'm confused, is there an actual honorific problem? I can't tell from the image provided alone. Didn't she call him by his name without an honorific because she thought he was the same age as her, but realized he was older and used an honorific to show respect? I don't know if there is an honorific problems as I haven't decided whether or not to buy it yet. Is there another line that has the problem or am I incorrect about how honorifics work?

Not sure what you find so hard to see in that shot mate, you have both "upperclassman" and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ "-senpai". Though if you ask me, "senior" would've worked even better. Also if you're reading this, devs, no, I ain't saying use it twice, just once is enough. The English language doesn't use this whole "seniority in studies" after one's name for politeness, so don't start using it either.

I said I was confused by the screenshot because I'm pretty sure upperclassman and -senpai can be used in the same sentence. I'm pretty sure it was just a joke that she was worried about using an upperclassman's first name without an honorific, despite the potential life or death situation they were in. I finished two endings now and honestly I think it may have been a joke to go with Sumika's character. I still don't think there's an honorific problem tho, whether they used senior or senpai doesn't really matter. They probably used senpai specifically because the English language doesn't use "seniority in studies". It surely wouldn't make me refund or not buy the game.

btw, based from the voiceover the "correct" TL would be

I up and called you Komiya-chan and all without thinking, even though you were a senpai. I'm sorry, Rio-senpai.

And unlike English, first name basis in Japanese is very, very huge. Frankly I don't even know --why-- there was a change in Rio's name in the end there.

Yeah you're right Tentacle Grape, I still don't think one character using an honorific would warrant a refund tho. It's pretty short but it's a good visual novel imo, I haven't seen all the endings yet tho.

I've finished it. How can I say this... It was fun roller coaster ride but as soon as the ride ends I'd probably not gonna look back at this title again though. But those mistranslations(?) ruined some of those experience.

Feels like I paid more than what I got, really.

I... don't see why it's wrong to translate Upperclassman when not used as an honorific, and maintain it in Japanese when it is. Honorifics don't translate well to English and can often carry meaning and significance to character interactions.

I agree.

again, I don't have a problem with either dropping honorifics or not. my problem lies on CONSISTENCY. either completely remove them or retain them. no mismash.
