That's because Capcom had to renew the licence for Denuvo on their game & they chose not to renew it.

It seems they either added a custom protection or triggers, so still a bit meh. A bit too late for doing so though.

I doubt the reason is due to a denuvo time based contract though, otherwise this should happen to every capcom game with this crap on.

It is due to that. Max confirmed that in a vidoe & you do have to renew Denuvo at the end of your contract. If you don't than you must remove it from your game. Denuvo is enbedded into the games files so they have to unpack the files & repack them without the Denuvo files. That's why the update was so big.

that's not correct. Denuvo is only embedded in the exe file and that's it. it's only there to convolute the process or reverse engineering the exe and thereby prevent the circumvention aka cracking of the actual DRM which is steamworks. this is why it is still possible to mod Denuvo protected games since the game files themselves aren't protected.
