Some of the stuff you written about we already knew from the other rumors about the game. While the other stuff seem a bit conflicting.
Your friend mentioned the absence of the X-men characters wasn't due to licensing issues, yet if that's true wouldn't they be in game initially?
Still I guess we wait and see.
I'm assuming you haven't paid attention much to how Capcom has operated from the announcement of SFV onward. If there is one thing you can take from this that is 100% correct, it is that Capcom does a lot of outsourcing. This has led to a lot of leaks to both MVCI and SFV https://www.reddit.com/r/Kappa/comments/6eqnpt/because_incompetence_has_consequences_heres_mvci/
https://www.eventhubs.com/news/2017/may/30/marvel-vs-capcom-infinite-roster-allegedly-leaked-ryce-claims-dante-spencer-strider-hiryu-ant-man-and-24-others/
Of course these individuals aren't given every single detail and may have even seen/heard things that never made it to the final product. However, like the article states with Ryce, he has been extremely accurate because of his position. These people do exist that get access to these kinds of information, whether or not you want to believe (I don't know how you wouldn't with the 2 of many examples there are out there) it about your favorite game.
All of this seems HIGHLY likely with some past actions taken by Marvel/Disney like OP stated with Marvel Heroes and the new Spider-Man game coming to PS4 (https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2016-06-15-spider-man-leads-marvels-epic-new-console-strategy) tl;dr they want their games to be of higher quality and not the quick cash-ins like a lot of superhero games usually end up being.
Good point. I just find it strange since I believe Capcom would've put at least Wolverine in one of the reveal trailers if that wasn't the case. But yeah, we have no idea on the deal made between Capcom and Marvel. So that's lead us nowhere.
That's where I am on this whole saga. Is Disney and Marvel at least let Capcom release the X-men and discount the game (while fixing the graphics) and let Capcom do an "apology tour" (when it's both their faults apparently for how the game turned out), I'd at least give the game a look. But as it is right now? Well, I can't blame Disney/Marvel for saying "nope, peace out."
(and double yes to putting MvC and the rest of the vs series on Steam. Come on, Disney, that's easy money for you)
Bout the same for me. It's kinda hard to say who exactly is at fault here cause at this point it's mostly just debating over missing information. At this point who knows if they are currently working to revamp the game and show an ultimate version of it or if they really are planning to can it. Either way, game is still fun enough to play even if it gets taken down.
I would kill for MvC Origins on Steam.
I never thought about it having two seperate rights. That would explains alot. Still find it silly they didn't make Wolverine part of default roster though.

Take in mind, this is a RUMOR aswell, same as this - and of course, this is for an older, exclusivity licensing contract - but it does show that DIsney does react to excessive negative press.
If this Star Wars thing is true, probly means this one is as well.
