2023 MAJOR UPDATE!!! MVCI will be shut down in October 24th 2023
Friends, I am currently employed with Capcom I got through with my internship, these days I am working on Resident Evil 4 Remake

It is with a heavy heart that I regret to inform everyone that this game MVCI is planned to be completely and permanently shut down in October 2023 of this year.

It is unfortunate that it must come to this but let us praise the lord that none of us were stupid enough to spend money on this game.

You have been warned not to buy this trash.

UPDATE from Lardgaro 3.0

At first I wasn't sure if this news was for real so I decided to make a joke thread because I figured it was likely fake however the same source who provided me with the shut down date of Marvel Heroes Omega has now given me a shutdown date for MVCI. A HUGE part of why this game is being shut down is poor sales due to just how nasty the graphics in this game looks, even workers at Capcom takes jabs at how bad MVCI looks.

I should not have made rants and trolling goofing off in my original post because this is indeed serious.
But my frustrations with MVCI and how the X-Men has been treated really hurt me, the fact that this game is being shut down is very painful for me to accept, I paid full price for this on PS4 because I think the gameplay is amazing and I still do enjoy this game.

I accurately gave the date when Marvel Heroes Omega would be shut down in 2017 and it happened, it is a shame that post no longer exists as the MH forums both on Steam and Original forum was completely shut down by Marvel. However I was the one who made the thread warning against buying further microtransactions in Marvel Heroes even as far back as when David Brevik left Gazillion. My source told me as far back as then Gaz was going bankrupt when I made the post the thread was deleted.

My same source who works as a contractor in the industry has given me a date for when MVCI will be taken down from the Steam Store and it will be October 2018

I know that nobody has any reason to believe me, but I ask that you guys screen shot my post here and just wait for October and you will see for yourself. My source said that work has been done on a Season 2 for MVCI, there are DLC characters that were in development, however work was halted halfway and the season 2 pass was ordered to be discontinued by Capcom.

Currently Capcom has plans to release only 3 more DLC characters separately they will be released individually but it is not polished and it is not guaranteed to be released either, the decision on this is still pending, work was ordered to be stopped when they were halfway with the 4th season 2 character. Please note that Disney has NOTHING to do with MVCI, it is Marvel's decision to shut down MVCI and pull it from EVO as it has drawn too much negative publicity and complaints, the reality is Capcom wanted MVCI at EVO but Marvel refused.

And FYI, the realistic artstyle had NOTHING to do with Marvel, they never gave any orders on how the art must look, the artstyle was done by Capcom because this game was the first fighting game that was built in-house by Capcom in over a decade. The problem was Capcom did not have the talent or the resources in-house to pick whatever artstyle they wanted, the resources and talent was extremely limited. Also the reason Captain Marvel looked better than Chun Li at first is because Captain Marvel was outsourced to a designer from France. The reason it took so long to fix Chun Li's face was because they had to outsource her to another designer to do the fixes, those "fixes" were not done by Capcom so I am just letting you guys know. This is why they didn't fix dante or anyone else.

Regardless if you believe me or not, it is what it is, Come October and you will see for yourself.

There were actual plans on releasing X-Men characters for this game, it had nothing to do with licensing issues, they were to be released in the form of DLC however Marvel pulled the plug due to the poor sales of MVCI and negative publicity, a little too late I guess.

My source managed to give me some insight into the game industry and some info on the development of MVCI that explains why it turned out the way it did. He assures me that this game will be pulled as Marvel has already made their decision.

His contract has been canceled along with everyone else who were ordered to do free lance work on MVCI, for all the bashing I gave MVCI from now on I have nothing further to say about this game, the fact that this is going to be pulled means the end of the MVC franchise as we know it, I have great memories of playing this in the arcade back in the 90's when X-Men vs Street Fighter was first released, I apologize for all the negative things I have said about MVCI as I never imagined that it would go down like this.

Well, you can play X-men characters in Future Fight as well as in Marvel Heroes Omega that was mentioned by OP, so I tend to believe him when he says it wasn't a licensing issue. Marvel's persona non grata atm are the Fantastic 4. But in the end who really knows? As long as we don't have access to the deal they've made, we can only speculate.

I for some reason believe OP, for all we know it could just be a DLC shut down, and they're just gonna start selling the game with all DLC released at that point as a bundle with no more future DLC and call it a wrap. Would they really just pull it from the steam store? Dunno. Glad I got it though, cause if it gets pulled, well be the only people who still own it, and it will be hard to get for others, if not impossible. People actually pay money to buy XBL accounts from those who own MvC2 on their account cause you can't buy it anymore, but the online servers are still up.

It's not gonna get pulled - unless you hear some sort of official confirmation from CAPCOM that Disney has actively prohibited them from using their IP which would be pretty stupid.

Disney doesn't license their IPs to specific companies (the Star Wars Licensing deal was the last thing they did with solo studio licensing) they just sign them out and take their royalties from whatever is put out.

You are still at it

Nobody trust you, dont wast our time

Btw you are being trolled on twitter looooooooooooooooool

Ya, it's more because the date doesn't make a whole lot of sense. October isn't near any specific Disney/Capcom related financial end date or anything. It's just an easier guess because from Sept - November a lot of stuff usually happens.

I'm assuming you haven't paid attention much to how Capcom has operated from the announcement of SFV onward. If there is one thing you can take from this that is 100% correct, it is that Capcom does a lot of outsourcing. This has led to a lot of leaks to both MVCI and SFV https://www.reddit.com/r/Kappa/comments/6eqnpt/because_incompetence_has_consequences_heres_mvci/

https://www.eventhubs.com/news/2017/may/30/marvel-vs-capcom-infinite-roster-allegedly-leaked-ryce-claims-dante-spencer-strider-hiryu-ant-man-and-24-others/

Of course these individuals aren't given every single detail and may have even seen/heard things that never made it to the final product. However, like the article states with Ryce, he has been extremely accurate because of his position. These people do exist that get access to these kinds of information, whether or not you want to believe (I don't know how you wouldn't with the 2 of many examples there are out there) it about your favorite game.

All of this seems HIGHLY likely with some past actions taken by Marvel/Disney like OP stated with Marvel Heroes and the new Spider-Man game coming to PS4 (https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2016-06-15-spider-man-leads-marvels-epic-new-console-strategy) tl;dr they want their games to be of higher quality and not the quick cash-ins like a lot of superhero games usually end up being.

Good point. I just find it strange since I believe Capcom would've put at least Wolverine in one of the reveal trailers if that wasn't the case. But yeah, we have no idea on the deal made between Capcom and Marvel. So that's lead us nowhere.

I Hope this game gets a huge discount, like when UMvC3 was removed from XBoxLive and PS store. I want to keep this for historical reasons.

There won't be a discount unless the Capcom folks stick their heads out of their asses, apologize, give us the X-Men, release all DLC for free, port MvC2 to Steam, and confirm that MvC4 is in development.

That's where I am on this whole saga. Is Disney and Marvel at least let Capcom release the X-men and discount the game (while fixing the graphics) and let Capcom do an "apology tour" (when it's both their faults apparently for how the game turned out), I'd at least give the game a look. But as it is right now? Well, I can't blame Disney/Marvel for saying "nope, peace out."

(and double yes to putting MvC and the rest of the vs series on Steam. Come on, Disney, that's easy money for you)

Bout the same for me. It's kinda hard to say who exactly is at fault here cause at this point it's mostly just debating over missing information. At this point who knows if they are currently working to revamp the game and show an ultimate version of it or if they really are planning to can it. Either way, game is still fun enough to play even if it gets taken down.

I would kill for MvC Origins on Steam.

The game is getting shut down, I'm sure of that. I'm not interested in arguing whether it will or it won't. So here is my main concern. What's gonna happen with the DLC? When it shuts down, how will I get the DLC? Will it be available free or at a discount? Will it be lost forever? How are these things usually handled?

When this happened to MvC3 on consoles, it was lost forever, the only people who had the DLC were the people who downloaded it before the game was removed.

You would have to get it some "other" way if you didn't download it in time.

Steam does things differen though, if you have it on your account you can download it whenever.
Thanks for your response. Looks like I'll have to spend some $ to get it.

It never had anything to do the the licensing, people only said that because they didn't know the difference between "Movie rights" and "Videogame rights"

Fox only had Movie rights to the X-Men, the idea that licensing and ownership of the IP was ever an issue was just fake news from the beginning.

I never thought about it having two seperate rights. That would explains alot. Still find it silly they didn't make Wolverine part of default roster though.

but i thought them having the movie rights was still a problem because disney still could have had xmen in the game with no problems at all, but they still didn't want to promote movie ips they didn't own.

That was the going the theory for a while, that they "didn't want to promote X-Men since they couldn't make money from the Fox movies".

But they openly said that they would like to include X-Men as DLC.
And now we have several leaks that claim X-Men characters were being made as DLC for Season 3 onward.

If those leaks were true, it means that they knew X-Men were a big selling point, and thought they could milk the game by walling them off for DLC later.
that doesnt disprove the theory though since them being in the base roster is more appealing then them being included as dlc it's not even season 1 dlc it's all the way at season 3 making it even less appealing.

So there is now a bigger chance this may be real.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-m35lQqTZE

Take in mind, this is a RUMOR aswell, same as this - and of course, this is for an older, exclusivity licensing contract - but it does show that DIsney does react to excessive negative press.

If this Star Wars thing is true, probly means this one is as well.
