How do I unlock alternate costumes?

I suspect, just as DLC characters are seen in the story mode as I also saw...such a costume will be DLC.

It's a drawback that there's no secondary costumes in the game as is.

Additional colors will either be a free update or also DLC.

I noticed that you can unlock stages by playing Story Mode, so it's not exactly like SFV.

That '' skin '' is actually a recolor locked of the basic.

Yeah - like other "Virus" costumes for characters. They're locked.

Yeah... Monster Hunter and Black Panther in the Story Mode... and very early on too.. Capcom isn't even trying to hide their greed

Their models are in game, but they don't show up in actual gameplay. We haven't really seen any proof that any of the characters were done day one. None of them are available day one, so I don't think they are ready yet.
