I ran over 4 dudes and failed the driving test, then i got home and started playing this game, and its really fun !

The game's premise is pretty good, and if you have a good setup (i.e. a steering wheel with 900º rotation angle, clutch pedal, and a TrackIR / VR headset), it can really help you practice driving (especially using manual gearboxes). However, even at its current state, CCD is still riddled with several infuriating bugs and is in a dire need of general polish, so be wary (especially if you're coming from more polished civilian vehicle simulations, like ETS2 or ATS). Pros and cons below.

Pros:

+ A complex European/Russian cityscape, serving as an excellent virtual environment for practicing driving in a bustling city. Graphics are not the best, but given the educational nature of the game, it's more than sufficient. Weather effects and most car models look nice, though.

+ Free driving mode with customizable season, time of day, weather, and traffic settings (you can set not just the traffic density but the aggressiveness of AI vehicles as well). You can also set the frequency of random events too (such as jaywalking pedestrians, dangerous drivers, etc.).

+ Car sharing and freight transport missions in free driving. They give a nice job simulator aspect to the game.

+ A good number of drivable Russian, European and Japanese vehicles with minimal customization options (such as gearbox selection, color variants, and toggleable learner/novice driver signage). The interiors look sufficient, and you can also adjust the mirrors as well.

+ Various localized rulesets (EU, Russian, Australian, or American traffic rules, with left- or right-hand driving).

+ Internet radio support.

Cons:

- Most of the vehicles and locations are locked behind career progression...

- ...which wouldn't be a problem if the Career Mode of CCD (which seems to be the "main" module of the game's personal edition) wasn't the easily most annoying part of the package, due to the unclear training instructions, and the wonky traffic rule detection which frequently punishes players even if no rules have actually been broken (or at least not according to Hungarian driving rules). At least I'm pretty sure that (just to give a few examples), I shouldn't be...

1. ...punished with 3 points for not using the right-turn indicator when completing a U-turn,
2. ...forced to do a U-turn even if the narrow road conditions would request a Y-turn instead,
3. ...punished for parking with part of the car on the sidewalk in the EU ruleset (and not being punished for stopping at the side of a main road),
4. ...failing the entire exam if I miss a turn (maybe examiners are that brutal in Russia, but this definitely does not worth a failure in Hungary - instructors typically remove a point or two, but direct drivers back to the exam route afterwards),
5. ...failing the entire exam for not finding a proper parking spot in the immediate vicinity where I completed the exam route.

I'm by no means an experienced driver (I just got my license earlier this year), but it's quite telling that while I passed my city test in real life on my second attempt (with a single penalty point), I couldn't complete CCD's City Test even after 20 attempts... Simply put, you will not learn the specific driving rules of your country from this game (at least if you're from an EU country - I'm not sure how accurate the other rulesets are), and you should not prepare for your driving test solely with City Car Driving. Due to the above issues with rule detection, it may very well punish you even if you drive according to your local rules (and worse, not punish you when you commit a local infraction), so take the game's evaluation with a healthy grain of salt and do not rely on it to much.

- I'm not sure how well players can feel car dimensions in VR, but I always had a hard time doing test track exercises with the internal camera when using a TrackIR, mostly because of the low-res mirrors. I strongly recommend the developers to add a Zoom button when using the interior view (as is the case in Euro Truck Simulator 2 / ATS), so that I can get more information from mirrors when using them (especially from the other-side mirror, which is very small in the game, but very much required for parallel parking exercises). I don't have much problem maneouvering cars in real life, but I simply cannot feel car dimensions in CCD, so I ended up completing the test track exam mission mostly in exterior view.

To sum it up, the game's a good "companion app" if you're learning to drive, but you shouldn't rely on it exclusively. On the other hand, it's perfect for practicing driving (especially manual shifting) or doing an Uber/Lyft/Bolt joyride in glorious Moscow, on which the Virtual City is evidently based off. ;)

This game has influenced my life already, today I just saw a guy run over 2 pedestrians in his Red 2011 Toyota Corolla when suddenly, I knew that it was a City Car Driving reference as that car is in the game

Got myself a Porsche, ran over countless pedestrians at my Porsche's top speed. Then i went home and played this fun little driving simulator. It's pretty entertaining too i guess.

If this game caught your attention but you are not sure whether you should give it a try or not please keep on reading. Hopefully I'll be able to give you some insight, since I've been using this for a few years now.

Here goes:

This is THE ONLY real driving simulator I could find in the global market. I discovered this software when it still was new, purchased it directly from the website and later transferred the license to Steam.

Believe it or not, with a Logitech G29 wheel + shifter and this software (yes, I'm calling it a "software" rather than "game") I introduced basic car mechanics and vehicle behavior on the road, to my wife, who wanted to apply to a driving school but had absolutely no idea how cars work, what the clutch is, what is the point of having different gears, etc. Of course she has a license now, not "thanks to this game", but the game did play an important role during her very early learning stage.

If you like simulators you definitely need this. You can change between US, EU, UK, or Russian driving style. Oh, and the graphics are stunning! Different weather patterns affect almost everything --from visibility to car behavior. The physics feel so real that sometimes you hate it: "Why won't it move? Oh yes, I released the clutch abruptly". "Why won't it stop? Oh yes, I pressed the brakes all the way and the wheels blocked so the car just sliiiiiided and got off road"...

One more positive thing I noticed is that the game is updated kind of regularly, with graphics/physics improvements etc.

Now it is time for the negatives:

1) This game can become boring. The city is too small for such a simulation masterpiece. Hell, you guys should map more!

2) Playing in single player is boring. The AI is good but still, it is AI. I'd like to connect to a server and play with other human beings. Imagine the possibilities.

3) Please consider improving the damage physics. When a car crashes it can't just bounce once and stop. It's supposed to flip, slide, get squeezed, etc.

Overall, this game is incredible but can get boring. A big thanks to the developers for keeping it relevant.
