Possible to change FOV?

I have a very hard time playing this game as a car driving practice game when it feels like I'm looking through a toilet roll. It's not like that in a real car in real life. So I want to get closer to reality by increasing the in-car camera's FOV.

I tried changing the numbers in \data\gamedata\cars\cameras_common.xml like different search results on the internet suggests, but nothing happens. The camera stays the same. I tried deleting my save file, restoring default settings, restarting, all kinds of combinations to try make it read from my new xml file with higher FOV numbers. Nothing.

Is this xml file not being used in current versions of the game? Is there another way to change the FOV?

I'm NOT playing in VR, I'm using a regular 1080p monitor, in case this xml file is just for VR.
