Starbreed is a 3D rail shooter with simple 3D graphics (few polygons) similar to the classics of the genre such as Star Fox, Panzer Dragoon, etc. However, it does incorporate adult sexual elements, allowing the player to form romantic relationships with various female alien pilots, who not only provide support with their unique weapons and attacks but also serve as vessels for the protagonist to release his “sacred fluid” into.

This game's graphics are unique because they blend different visual styles. The gameplay retains a "retro" style with highly geometric ship and enemy designs reminiscent of older games with limited polygon usage. This game, however, simulates that look with a modern twist. Story and narrative are undoubtedly the game’s weakest aspects since there’s hardly any lore. The protagonist is a spaceship pilot who must rescue planets from villains who are destroying them. He works alongside other pilots, including pretty girls, who were each assigned to monitor a specific planet.
The game doesn't delve much deeper into the protagonist's mission later on. Instead, it places greater emphasis on developing the protagonist's "romantic subplots" with each girl. As they grow fonder of him, they gradually reveal more about their pasts and the things they like.

In terms of gameplay, this title has an arcade-style approach. You can choose to complete the eight worlds/levels in any order, as in the classic Mega Man games. Each level has its own theme, such as desert, high-tech, or aquatic. —and the enemies include spaceships, robots, and mechanical animals. You defeat them by shooting at them while dodging their bullets. Each game has a health bar and an energy bar for evasive maneuvers (WASD). If your health bar reaches zero, it’s game over, and you have to start over. However, the energy bar recharges as long as you don't use it.
Combat isn't very difficult in general. The number of enemies isn't high, so the number of shots they fire isn't overwhelming either. This isn't a bullet hell game. You can also use the A or D keys to rotate your ship and dodge enemy bullets.
At the end of each level, you'll face a boss with a health bar. You'll need to defeat the boss in stages by destroying specific points on its body. These points are easily identifiable because they change color when you shoot them. There is a good variety of bosses, each with its own mechanics and attacks. Overall, they aren't very difficult.
In addition to shooting, the game features dating sim elements where you can earn affection from girls by taking them into battle. At certain moments, they’ll come under attack, and you can earn more affection points by eliminating the enemies attacking them. Once you reach a certain affection level, new dialogue options become available with them, and you’ll unlock new sexual positions.
Finally, the game features an upgrade system that includes new weapons and increased health. You can purchase these upgrades with credits earned from defeating enemies, as well as by completing the brothel minigame, in which you put you (in famale form) to work as a prostitute.

Otherwise, for $10, you won't easily find a game as complete and worthwhile as this one.
