In the mentioned game this happened without V-Sync, I guess the 190 FPS at 4K overheated my GPU, but V-Sync tamed it to 60 FPS and so it didn't crash anymore.
But here I'm getting around 50 FPS at 4K, but I guess nvlddmkm from latest Nvidia driver gets a heat problem. This is just a guess why it crashes. I will try now a fix with the Unreal Engine setting, have to do some research and will report if my self found solution will work.
Where is the place the engine settings are stored? I would try something there, but I can't find it in Steam folder, nor in documents nor in local user/appdata.
I am running with akitio node egpu box with gtx 1080,382.33 drvier, intel skull canyon nuc
I have a preliminary solution: when reducing the settings from 4K to only 1080p, the game will load the save file without crashing, and seems to be playable. So 4K seems to overheat the GPU, because maybe too demanding. The latest Unreal Engine games "Inner Chains" and "Skylar and Plux" had the exactely same issue, but there it was solved by activating V-Sync ingame or per manipulated settings file. Here V-Sync doesn't help to prevent the crash, but reducing the resolution does. But it looks way less beautyful at 1080p than at 4K... (playing on a 40" 4K monitor). :(
