Killing all enemies within 1 turn is practically how to play Rogue.
Of course certain encounter and Forest final boss will force Rogue into defense, which complicate up the matter a bit.
- what weapon you using?
- if plan to leave much enemies alive, better use Hide. With this way, you don't need defense against them since they will not attack for 2 turns.
- Use the Street school to stun enemies who no yet attack. Mean 1 defense card to affect 2 enemies.
Anyway, do you unlock Subclass already? Like Lich and Storm Master for Wizard ?
Hunter is so absurd you can kill the 666 demon in 1 turn. And while warrior and wizard are not so absurd, they can still kill the lich or dragon boss in 1 turn. Even in the rare occasion of bad RNG (where you wind up with 5 defense cards at hand) you can still recover from it with free defenses.
As for my setups
Hunter - Fey, Fairy Bow, Rustic, Forest Crown (undodgeable), Dragon Whistle/Vampire Arrow, Iolo (always pick +1 damage, detect, and +1 distance on lv up)
Warrior - Berserker, Warhammer, Hatcher, Forest Crown (damage), Dragon Whistle/Rosary, Iolo (always pick combat reflex/defense mastery on lv up, 2 startup berserk and 1 max berserk), Forest Crown can also be swap to defense mid battle to gain +1 defense that turn.
Mage1 - Arcane, Lightning, Mirror, Illusion Robe, Dragon Whistle/Storm Ring, Iolo/owl (always pick energy and return damage on lv up)
Mage2 - Pyro, Scorching, Mist, Pyro Robe, Dragon Whistle/Arcane Channeler, Iolo/salamander (always pick energy and avoid all fire perks).
My current Rogue setup is terrible, it's
Swash, Short Sword, Off Hand Dagger, Poison Darts, Garrotte, Brigard Armor. (non of the level up perks look that good).
1 defense card vs 2 enemies sound good on paper, except the things that most often require defense are status immune, distance, hidden, or haste.
Not really a fan of the sub class challenge. I completed the paladin one and I lost interest due to how slow it was. Yes, i am aware I can use dragon whistle and Iolo to start from 1 stage before the final stage, then swap your gears.
It is popular and very similar
Here I get to keep my loots, in Slay the Spire I have to throw 95% of the stuff away.
I think we shpuld open a thread with our best configurations.
I have played more than 100 hours but was not until recently I got a very useful hunter configuration. Sharpshooter, short bow, dwarf quiver, and decoction (that one that gives you all stamina). Once I used it, I was able to unlock many equipement and even complete the game a few times.
But I do not understand the fey school. I have the quiver and the bow, but can not get very far. I have many equipement and I do not know how to use it good.
So, if you have a nice configuration, tell us.
Hunter is the strongest class in the game. Rogue is the melee class with weak attacks, high cost, and even worst defense. Swinging a hammer with warrior cost less than a dagger with a rogue, does more damage and I don't need to set up status.
And yes, I already beaten every stage with a Rogue. He doesn't get much better nomatter the configuration. He is still weak vs bosses that hides and spams you, damage on contact, status immunity, and charge. He is the worst at card cycling and the only one you have to hit end turn for running low on power.
Still, using bag makes you extra vulerable when forced to block (charge, hidden, bosses that hide mid fight), and damage on contact. I think the other 3 classes are still better since they can all 1 turn kill but without those weaknesses.
Assassination school (required)
Assassin's Blade
Throwing Knives
Shadow Cloak
Secret Knife
Poison Kit (required)
I wonder if maybe I should be using the Cursed Dagger, but it's such a pain in the neck to use I have resisted it. Do I need to bite the bullet and learn how?
The throwing knives give me a way to do decent damge against aware enemies, and of course distant ones. Also, using Poison Kit + Multiple Throw stuns 3 enemies.
EDIT: Yup, Cursed Dagger hits a lot harder. Switching to that and the Spider Poison was the key to getting the unlock. Spider poison helps by allowing you to use Multiple Throw to stun 3x enemies at least one more time per fight. This helps a lot keeping called dragons under control in the final fight. I'll add a more detailed writeup to the subclass sticky.
Although I actually used phase blade on my runthrough to make distance while throwing knives. Royal Elixir was used for the occasional damage taken to make distance. I used it because when I check the card, phase blade was shown to be "ranged", but turns out you still take damage on contact anyway.
With
Hunter - Fey, Fairy Bow, Rustic
Warrior - Berserker, Warhammer, Hatcher
Mage1 - Arcane, Lightning, Mirror, Illusion Robe
Basically, stack cost reduction and cycle through cards as cheaply as possible. Might take a bit getting used to.
