By the time I finished my first hour, it was abundantly clear to me that this game should have been put in Early Access, and not full release.

My two major complaints are combat and building.

Starting area enemies within the opening minutes are way too aggressive for how much health they have. I spent a good ten minutes non stop fighting the slimes because they wouldn't stop swarming me, and I couldn't find a break to build shelter. Your fighting animations are fast, but your character moves very little in terms of direction, making the act of fighting the very fast moving slimes a chore to start off. I did learn that you can hold right mouse to lock on to an enemy, and that will force your character after the enemy you're locked on, which does help some. There's a decent difference between standing attacks and jump attacks, enough to think that something can be built on, but these two things alone don't justify blatantly copying Devil May Cry's style system that's supposed to reward variety and diversity in ability usage. Here, your style rank goes up when you land an attack, goes down when you stop landing attacks, and goes down a bunch when you get hit. That's it. Stripped entirely of what made the style system interesting to engage with.

My other major complaint is building. For some reason, when trying to build my first house, the wood I placed was transmuted into dirt. When I mined up the dirt I placed, I got back dirt instead of the wood I spent. Curious, I dug down in search of a stone layer, because this is clearly a terraria clone. I found stone, placed stone, and it was stone. So I placed wood in the stone layer, and it was wood! But not in spawn area, where you're clearly intended to build your base, because of the perfectly flat surface that gets generated. Both wood and stone got transmuted into dirt.

Because I was able to successfully place wood blocks in the stone layer, I set off to find a scenic spot to build my house. When I found it and got to work, my wood continued to turn into dirt. Nearby, a bit of stone layer was exposed, so I tried placing my wood in there, and my wood turned into stone instead of dirt.

That's where I gave up.

I know this game's development got it's start as a 3D conversion of Terraria. I followed development years ago when it was still called Terraria 3D. At this point, it feels like it's still trying to be Terraria 3D, but in a way that's cheating on the test. It reeks of the "you can copy my work, but change it just enough to make it look like it's not mine" meme.

You spawn in an open grassy woodland with a guide npc. You're expected to build housing for additional npcs. Slimes spawn in the day, then zombies and floating eyes come after you at night. Yellow stars that fall in the night and can be collected.

There's sunflowers, dayblooms, water leaves, and blink roots. All of those are Terraria plants, and only ONE of them is renamed - the daybloom. I don't recall the name of the top of my head, but keeping the water leaf and blink root names? Come on, guys.

And these are just the things I noticed in my first hour, and from some of the screenshots. Who knows what else is ripped off in here?

There's a difference between invoking the feel of another game, and outright stealing from it. Maybe it gets better later, maybe it's different after the first couple hours, but that's the problem. It should be different from the start. Now, not later. Elsewise, why bother changing the name? Why not go the whole distance and just make it Terraria 3D? Is it because you couldn't sell it if you did that? If that's the route you want to take, you need to be more thorough and weed out EVERYTHING that could draw the Terraria comparison.

I've been waiting years to see someone do Terraria in a 3D setting and have it actually work. This isn't it.

UPDATE: In the day since Deliria was launched, the price was slashed in half, and a chunky 200mb update was pushed, fixing several noted bugs. Unfortunately, the block placement bug is still around, so I'll be holding off on my continued playthrough. Still though, I hope this sets the tone for development moving forward. Keeping your head down and making immediate efforts to course correct is hella respectable.

If there's anything I'd like to see, it'd be more utilization of Steam to push statements. I did see the one about the price being slashed, but I also recommend posting your patch notes there, as well as what you're working on next. Deliria's released on Steam now, likely with many users like myself who don't have access to your discord server for the news and updates.

Whatever you choose to do next, keep it up.

Leaving this review up as it still applies in all but one way, the price has been reduced, and the dev is in fact working on major bugs. I will update this review once the game improves more

Just...release it as EA instead of this, you are claiming this is a full game? for that price?

Dev, I get this was a long term passion project but...this missed all the marks of being a good game on release, hell this is a ALPHA release.

stay away for a long while until the dev fixes many of it's bugs and issues, and finds out how to control spawns

few things... first of all game JUST came out so theses may change

MANY BUGS
- Sleeping during day softlocks u
- When respawning you sometimes go through walls and die again
- No breath time at night or in caves, when killing all enemies around you, more just spawn in and its impossable to play becuase you are constatly taking dmg
- I found out how to fly without wings
- Caves are super small
- NPS's live in the same house and stack ontop of each other so pretty hard to shop
- Dosent allow you to go through settings because the buttons dont work
- Combat is janky
- Doesnt show you how to play or what to do there is ALOT going on

Id say wait ATLEAST a month or 2 before buying because at this stage its impossable to play
