Dark Room Safe - Hint?

Ted keeps trying to get me to open the safe in the darkroom but i think im missing something for the code to unlock it. Any hints would be great! Thanks!

Hint: search the study room

Bigger hint: statue/bust on the table

i found the code, but nothing happens
what i have to do?
i have no panel to enter it

Also have an issue with the code. I found it, but when I try to use the safe, Ted just turns around and asks me what's that machine on the other side. Playing the german version, there are also typos when Ted is supposed to enter the hole to flint's room before the spiderweb is cleard.

On second play through I caouldn't open the safe till after using the machine on right (film & latent image).

I do have the same problem as neon. I've found the code and I should be supposed to open the safe, but everytime I try, Ted is turning around and asks "What's the machine over there? What does it do?" I looked at the machine, put the film into it and everything, but nothing works. Anyone got an idea? Ted's repeating the line over and over.

Hint: Just try to listen to whatever Ted tells you, even if it sounds weird and seems at first like it doesn't make any sense, like the part when he mentions the machine over and over again...puzzles come in order, if you can't go through an action, go a few steps back and make sure you didn't miss anything. Ted is always hinting these things out to you so just listen to the grumpy old detective :)
