If you have a Thomson router (often rebranded / badged) they're known to be flaky...
Also, try changing the MaxPing in your Steam settings to 500 - I used to have a router that would keel over if there was a lot of certain types of traffic :-}
There seems to be an issue where the server data is taking forever to update, but I suspect this has to be something Steam is doing, as they hold all the server data.
NS2 does not disconnect wifi, but if your router can't cope with the traffic, that might just do it :-}
