How big is the player base?
Is it a steamworks only game? If so I would be worried, as there is 600 people online on average.

Which seems far to low imo, how is the playerbase/matchmaking? Are there constant games going?

Its kind of a small community like Ghost Recon Online, but I have trouble getting into most servers.... its pretty fun, sometimes I sit for 10 minutes trying to get into a 25/25 server, LOL.

This is not a console game, it is a server browser with recommended servers. Generally new friendly ones will say "Recruit Friendly" or something....

The player base isn't huge but it's got a lot of consistent players and good servers.

I think there's something wrong with the Steam stats. If you look at this graph for instance, you see that it dropped to 0 for a while... which probably throws the averages off quite a bit:

There's a fairly decent sized community for NS2. There's always servers up with a ton of people. If anything it's difficult to find a server with an empty slot at the moment (due to the sale/balance patch).

*edit*
It's Steamworks only by the way, and there's no matchmaking to speak of. It is just using the good ol' server browser system.

Yeah, and theres always a few new recruits joining the game!
It's a blast if your thinking about buying the game, with the servers right now theres a constant stream of aliens and marines simply because of how good the spawning is handled.....

I'm sure the game will go on sale in the upcoming summer sale, which will hopefully bring a load of new players and retain them this time round.

Apart from that, I never have trouble to find a game that suits my preferences (16player servers). When playing with a group of friends it can get difficult to find a srever that is not full or empty. Europe that is...

It is on sale now, all weekend. 66% Off, that is why I asked this question. I am considering buying it.

What?! Already? That's why they pushed out the bt build so quick :)

Well, in this case, get it! Of course there's the chance you might not like it, but in case you do, you are in for a very unique, deep and rewarding MP experience.

:dsfight: It´s a cool game ;) :dsfight:

Player count is fairly steady at 500~ on average. With NS2 being a FPS/RTS hybrid, it's a bit niche that takes getting used to for most people.

Give it a chance! There's nothing quite satisfying bellysliding as a Gorge or ripping it up as an Exosuit :P

I came here to ask the same question because of the sale. I loved the original NS. Looks like there's enough people playing to be worth picking up. I shall see you all in game later. :)

Live on the US West Coast, never have a problem finding multiple full servers at any time of day (even in the early morning hours)
Hagymakarika Jun 27, 2013 @ 11:43am
I need just 17 awesome players to enjoy the game...

Uh, sale already, nice.

Always leaves you wondering if it'll go 75% in a potential summer sale.

But, I guess it'd be worth it at full price anyway!
