does this game have a story to it?
I'm thinking about buying it but i'm worried that it might just be nothing but a multiplayer shooter game that does nothing but shoot. does it have a single player story mode to it?

No. Multiplayer only.

Backstory: aliens get hungry and want to eat on blue nozzles. Humans don't understand why aliens make their bases all goopy and ugly, so they evacuate all civilians and send a squad of space marines to clean up the goop on the walls.

Stray bullets, a bit of miscommunication, and then all of a sudden it's an all out war.

there is just a you vs KI mode but this mode is very easy. The Multiplayer is awesome :)

It's not that kind of game.

It has no unfolding story, no. But it has some nice artworks that convey a lot of history about the two factions.
What I like the most is the approach of the aliens not being the agressor, but actually just defending their homeworld against the expanding TFS. Overall, the artdirection is really well done and not the generic type of blood-thirsty, saliva dripping alien against heroic techno-marine.

I know, it's not what you asked, but I felt it had to mentioned somewhere :)

From my best understanding, the aliens are a lab based creation. They do look like mutated earth creatures.

The TSF, Trans-System Federation, or The Frontiersmen, are a bunch of elite human marines that have been called in to sweep clear areas believed to be infested with the hostile alien race The Kharaa.

The Kharaa and the subspecies that make up its hostile presence on various human installations are the product of a previously unknown Bacteria-like growth that rapidly evolves and directly sets in motion the events that lead up to the hostile encounters with humans, and was accordingly termed by TSF scientists as Bacterium. The Bacterium is the basic building block of the Kharaa, and is responsible for the evolution and aggressive behavior of the Kharaa lifeforms. The creatures and structures that the Kharaa have at their disposal were previously not associated with the Bacterium whatsoever, but were separate species that were infested and incorporated into the Kharaa gene pool (including structures such as the Harvester). Once assimilated, these species would be regularly reproduced, albeit re-purposed to better suit their role in the Kharaa, such as carapace and the razor sharp blades that Skulks and Fades evolved.

The Kharaa began appearing on ships and bases throughout the Ariadne Arm a decade ago, slaughtering everyone on board. In almost every case the ship then wandered off course, and either destroyed itself by slipping into some gravity well (usually a planet or sun), or was tracked down and destroyed by the owners of the craft. Life support on bases and ships usually fails soon after the Kharaa take over, so even without military response, they don't last very long. However it is still unknown how their appearances on numerous ships and installations can be prevented, and until more conclusive information can be gathered by scientists, humans may never know how or why the Bacterium is capable of setting forth such a destructive onslaught without any early indication or warning.

The game does not have a much of a story and it is multiplayer only, but the gameplay is so much fun. Its like CS:GO with aliens and its more balanced. Couldn't recommend enough.

an alien is a creature from another planet, so if theyre aliens they arent from earth meaning that they cant be lab created

Not sure how you found yourself in this thread, but you may want to look at the date of the last response.

There is one story but it's a short one.
This story teller resumed it almost perfectly in 2013: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRcs6BWTJ6E

Ps: no, of course, there is none. It's a PvP co-op focused game.
