Basically, since the devs have been "back" they managed to annoy the comp community, annoy the modding community (ns2+ mod drama) then they segregated the community by adding 2 tabs, they made a shedload of "rookie" features like HP bars (cause you know, FPS games have HP bars? I dunno) made sneaky changes and didnt tell anyone (hit model drama)...
Apparently they thought the game needed a lot of rookie changes to appeal to the masses, while they forgot why their core gamers stayed in the first place.
Theres a few core servers left though, about 5-6 per day or so.
I can't say i've noticed a lot of changes, though i was surprised by the HP bar. Though the game still has the same issue of nobody wants to play aliens, every server i join the marine team is full and the alien team is 1-2 players down and with 3 bots.
I would say get it and enjoy it whilst it's still around. The game will only get quieter and quieter the longer time goes on. It still has players, plus you'll always find a game in progress if you use the "play now" function that throws you right into the action.
