Radio direction finder buttons/knobs question
Did I miss something or is there a reason that I can only change the band on the radio direction finder, all other buttons are not usable (contrary to the manual). There is no white writing when I move the cursor over it. The same is valid for the radio transceiver.

The RDF was delayed until it becomes viable, for example once there is a game mode where you're not in the range of a convoy.

That means it is normal at the moment?

The RDF is used in operational movement. A U-Boat trails a convoy, and at specified time intervals it sends out a beacon. Using their RDFs, the U-Boats get a bearing to the trailer and form a wolfpack. WP is currently tactical only. You are always in visual or audio contact with the convoy. You don't need the RDF to find it. That is what DECAFBAD means by game mode. There is no operational movement game mode where the RDF would be of any use, so modeling it to actually function is a low priority.

Thank you Colonel Frost, this is very clear. I just asked because i saw videos on youtube in which those knobs had a function but not in my game.

Wolfpack is an excellent game. It may seem opaque at first, but once you have played with other players in a high level game, it becomes clear and accessible. (New players are always welcome.) The game can be mastered - not with any particular manual skill - but by attitude and tactics. I play as division commander. I manage people who manage people who manage equipment. I fight the division, and I fight the ship if I have to. Under ideal circumstances, I can delegate most of it. The more I delegate, the more players rise to the occasion. The naval requirement for excellence translates to this game if you demand it. It's remarkable. The game is not about any particular piece of equipment. It's not about role play. It's about bringing people together to achieve a shared military goal.

The radio direction finder never really worked in Wolfpack since release in march 2019. You could spin the dial and knobs whatever. But there are no radio transmissions to receive with it. And player boat transmissions can also not be found with it. It's a placeholder for now. At some point the RDF antenna got a switch to lower/raise it so it didn't obscure the UZO/periscope views anymore.

The radio box on the wall in the top left did get changed in the beginning versions. You could have different frequencies/channels selected for receiving and transmitting. Maybe that is what the older videos showed.

unfortunately becuse of work and other commitents i am rarely alble to play any game in multi player. which makes this game especially difficult. the learning curve is huge and it is really meant to play as a crew. other than that i don't have any friends that play this game

I play this game on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 1900 EDT US in Open Lobbies on WP Discord. https://discord.gg/KMQe3qnp

You are welcome to join one of those games. If you can only play for a short time, that's OK, you can leave when you need to. If you arrive late, we will add you if there is an open slot, or you can wait and watch the streams until a slot becomes available. Leaving early or arriving absolutely fine. We routinely get full lobbies, but there is usually some turnover during the course of a mission. The learning curve is not as steep as you make it sound. Tutoring on any station is available on the WP Operations Discord. https://discord.gg/NhQuzgZXBq

Because my games are at division level, I have specific published rules of engagement. It helps to have read these, but it is not necessary. Once you are on a boat for a mission with other players, you get to see how the game is played under time pressure.

If you have difficulty failing in public, this game is not for you. Public failure happens. It's the navy. Aspire to perfection. Reach it when you can.
