2 different games obviously. Go youtube and see yourself.

Although annoying how slow this sim is moving along. This is still the sim I prefer. Uboat seems to be like the sims on a uboat.

Devs, check out "into the flames" discord. They are embracing people to assist them build the game and it's coming on nicely. You have thousands of designers sat at home bored. Let them on board and push this sim forward.

I love Uboat and I highly recommend it, but this is not inaccurate lol.

It's really what you're into OP. Are you more of a sim guy and want to find a group to play this and man the stations with? Or do you want that to take a back seat to crew management and persistence?

thanks folks - appreciate your opinions.

As for foxbob, there's always one irrelevant poster but at least you tried.

Ah okay. My bad then, but if someone asks something like this i state my opinion, if it's irrelevant for you to get such answers, perhaps 5 min reaearch would make your question irrelevant and obsolete.

For $35 I have over 100 hours at this point and I play damn near every weekend with people, so... Up to you OP.

I haven't had this experience at all, as far as sitting back and managing on uboat, though I do know what you are talking about. As far as what the OP is asking though, if you change the setting on uboat to be more realistic, you will have a more sim like experience. I have first person only, manual torpedo solutions only, and some others I can't think of off the top of my head enabled. These remove the whole gameplay of the exploded side view, clicking on parts of the ship and letting the ai take care of it. I spend most of my time with my captain character going between decks and taking care of things myself. You can also jump between officers, and manually perform roles like the hydrophone, the ballasts and dive plane stations.

There are still certain things wolfpack does better. For instance, the torpedo calculator is omitted in uboat in place of plotter devices accesible from the attack periscope. It's still kind of the same, but slightly simplified. You don't need to do actual trigonometry in uboat to score a kill, nor do you need to identify ships for parameters, as the tools used to determine distance and speed will input the solutions for you. There are also things in Uboat that aren't in Wolfpack, like warming up your torpedoes to avoid them being duds.

They're both great, I would say Uboat is a solid 7 on the simulation scale, and wolfpack is about an 8.5. At the moment Uboat is the better overall experience, since it is an open world, make your own adventure game with rpg elements, but wolfpack is the more real feeling of the 2 for sure, theres just not much game there yet.

That's true, you can play it more like an old-school Silent Hunter game, but I generally don't because I have Wolfpack, for example.

It's nice to be able to sit back and have the AI do the math for me.

I can also recommend the TDC mod for uboat, makes it a little bit harder...=)

Might be quite interesting:
The warming up (or better pre-heating) of the torpedoes in "Uboat" is (I guess) added as an additional "element of suspense".
It was not necessary to prevent duds but it was part of the maintenance of the electric propelled torpedos.
And was not done during an attack - as it happens in "Uboat".

The reason for pre-heating a torpedo was to ensure that the torpedo maintained a uniform speed, since the battery output was sensitive to temperature and decreased as the batteries ran down during the torpedo run.
Another important part was the running distance. A preheated torpedo had up to 40% greater running distance (about 5000 Meter against 3000 Meter).
The pre-heating was done every two or three days and the weapon had to be pulled from the tube.

The steam powered torpedoes did not need maintenance.

So given the fact that "Wolfpack" concentrates more about the actual convoy attack and puts you right into the action, I guess it's not needed to simulated in any way.

Uboat evolves from "Sims on a Uboat" into some nice mature sequel of SH3, with a mix of FPP, crew managemet and sim. If they keep this direction, Uboat will blow everything else away ;) for decades.

But seriously said, these are two completely different games. Personally i dont like the narrow experience from Wolfpack. Which is sad, as i not only awaited the release and was very excited...i also follow the game since, as it was not in the shape i expected. Today i must say, it still lacks of possibilities and content. As much as the missions soak you in at first, as much this gets boring after a few times. Thats my opinion.

I agree with the first reply here. This game is more of a sim that may never be finished where as uboat is more like a game that has some sim qualities.

For me Wolfpack is the better game by far. It is more realistic while at the same time
easier to play and better to control. The coding seems much better too, resuluting in only a few bugs. Graphics are sharper and on my system three times faster. Just to talk a walk in Uboat feels so fiddely that I have to quit the game.

Even if you don´t actually PLAY Wolfpack it feels very accurate and if fully modelled inside it might deliver a nice "museum-walk-around". Wolfpack in VR would be the most immersive experience I can imagine so far (Devs, you hear me?). Uboat is way more gamey, whether you like it or not. Still, it evolves nicely and I think it got more serious and better looking. What keeps me from playing Wolfpack: I´m a single player guy and I feel totally lonely and lost in Wolfpack. There´s not much I can do except attacking convoys. UBoat is a sim-like micro-management game that has nice and polished graphics outside (exteriour view), but looks to colourful and comic-like inside. You can improve your crew´s skill which is really encouraging. A combination of both games would be awesome.

What keeps me from playing Uboat is the fact that it uses skill-leveling (which I like), but resets all your effort when another "mega-patch" is released.
