1) Making the ships more modable with more hard points to add different types of weapons, and of course more weapon types.
2) Eliminating the Hyperdrive 3 limit for Destroyers and Hyperdrive 4 limit for Corvettes. It makes no sense as usually smaller ships are faster than larger ones.
3) Adding more types of units for Ground Combat rather than just tanks.
4) Adding more orbital platforms like missile, beam, and fighter orbital defenses.
5) The Shinari are basically spy-centric and have weaker ships. But the spy mechanic in the game is kind of weak so it needs to be tweaked so the Shinari are not so weak.
6) Better Diplomacy and more steps rather than Non-Aggression, Trade Agreement, Alliance. The problem with Alliance is that there is really no difference between Alliance and Non-Aggression treaties since you are not called to aid your Ally if your Ally comes under attack.
What I found the most fun to play are the campaigns. The base game has 3 for the Terrans, Kra'hen and Shinari, but I believe the original game envisioned add-on campaigns for the other races. This game was created when CDs were the game medium of choice so each of the three races had their own CDs. Unfortunately the game did not sell that well so the add-ons for the other races never materialized. Now with any scripted campaign, there is an issue with replayability, but given the different number of missions that pop up with only a few that are absolutely essential to the storyline, I don't think this is a problem. But a greater number of optional missions that may or may not pop up would be nice.
And of course the key issue is quality storylines. One of the things that bothered me a little about the Terran campaign is that there is this underlying hint of possible conflict with the Brotherhood once all four crystals are found. However since the 4th crystal involves a conflict to the death with the Kra'hen and the game ends when the Kra'hen are defeated and all other races are either dead or your allies, I never got a sense of closure with the Brotherhood storyline. I would like that resolved.
rhony 2, About the shinari you are completely wrong as I believe you are not aware of a couple preety broken mechanics in the game. They are actually the strongest to the point that provided a couple conditions met, they can destroy the krahen even if they are outnumbered by over 2000 to 1 or even more as long as the shinari have like 30 ships (do not simulate the space fights). How? Its thanks for the ship manipulator with cloack and the fact that no matter how much you are outnumbered the enemy only going to have a certain amount of stacks. simply attack the enemy fleet with one ship at a time (cruisers are the best just consider them as expendable missiles), turn off all weapons, get into position and fire the ship manipulator at one of those monster stacks and watch as the other krahen fleets destroy said stack that contained lets say a 1000 ships. You should try to retreat as soon as you fired if you managed to run away, you just attack again. If not then you just traded 1 ship for 1000, you just detach the next ship from the fleet and attack again until the enemy no longer able to fight. By the way their unique bonus of getting twice the money from the trade building is op as hell as the trade building (not the bank but the other one) stacks. If you drop your tax to 0 at start and start building up your planets for trade you will make a killing (make sure to B line for the stadium to avoid the revolt and then you could even just rush the cruiser, engine 5, cloack and ship manipulator and as soon as you have a couple of those ships you won. If in a pinch you can also just buy some ships to hold the line and just let the spies destroy the enemy ship buildup)
Well, I gotta say I have never used that tactic but then I found the Shinari storyline not as fun as the Terran so I've only played as the Shinari a couple of times. I usually do research the Ship Manipulator but usually avoid the Cloak as the first time I used that (as a Terran) it didn't work all that well.
But good to know. Thank you.
