Game keeps crashing when saving. And I lost my old saves. And I can't skip intro, so I have to rewatch it everytime I crash and starting a new game since I cannot save and load. It autosaves though, but when I load the save is empty

It wasn't like this when I first bought and played it for a couple of days.

Googling about this error will find this thread.

I have put my steamlibrary folder to exception in avast, and I have allowed Realmsofmagic's exe file, still can't save. I suspect my save file is still intact but for some unknown reason the game cannot access the folder or the file.

Something like this ever happened to me in a game called Necesse.
Here's the thread I made :

Here's his solution at that time :
Seems like windows doesn't like the zipfile, but when he adds nozip parameter I can save normally.

As I mentioned in our direct messages, the only conclusion I can come to is some other process/program is messing with the save files.
Most likely, this is an antivirus that checks out the zip by opening it and therefore making it inaccessible to the game as it saves, causing a crash.

I have just uploaded a patch that makes the saving/loading more robust, but the problem is likely still there. But the good news is that it's now also possible to tell the game not to compress the saves, thereby hopefully fixing this issue.

You can do so by adding the "-zipsaves 0" to launch parameters before launching the game. As shown in this image: https://i.imgur.com/4yRT8jP.png
This will only happen to new saves, so you will either have to unzip your existing save, or start a new one.

One downside to this is that the save file is going to be about 50 times larger. This isn't too much of a problem though, since the save files already are relatively small.

Hopefully you'll get it working :)

Does Realms of magic also use zip for the save file ?
