More light, please.
I have played the game for more than 100 hours so far and many more hours will follow. That's for sure. The only thing that bothers me is... it is too dark. Especially the area around the player. The torch should be much brighter.

Therefore your light radius is limited by you max jump so that the ledges the secrets are on are not too easy to spot.

And I highly recommend spending the 2 points in Fire Magic that it takes to get the Light spell. It has no duration. You cast it once and that's it, it is on forever.

Doesn't help that it rains like 93% of the time....more light would be nice, at least *sometimes*

agreed... and why does it rain so much now?

There are potions that light up around you for 15 minutes but it's not much better (if at all) than a torch. I spent a lot of time underground and don't recall thinking the rain was excessive but I did notice it.

Often in games that come very dark by default (for whatever reason) I adjust the gamma. It's not really pretty to look at but it helps. Didn't try it on this game though.

Definitely would be nice to have more light.

The fire spell's light range is *worse* than the torch. Waste of a skill. Also the sfx is too annoying to leave one all the time. At least you don't have a limited duration on the torch. That'd be way more annoying.

Edit: I was wrong, proven below. Oops.

Torch and spell are almost exactly the same, but the spell is actually slightly better. Best seen by looking at the bucket to the left of the ape in the images.

Hmm. That was not my experience underground. I don't have screenshots but I distinctly recall the light situation improved when I pulled out my torch. Perhaps I was comparing the spell to the spell+torch. That'd make sense if they stacked, and it'd have created the same impression. I'll check.

Edit: Yeah, that was it. I withdraw my complaint. I had a "it's too dark with this spell" moment and pulled out a torch to find it brighter and the impression stuck. In fact they stack so the spell is actually quite useful.

First of all, that's lazy...you don't have to put items within viewable range to "hide" them...they can be on paths that are somewhat hidden but the chest can be farther. Also it's dumb that light even goes through tiles, but ok. Secondly, like somebody else already said...the spell you mention is a waste...should be twice as bright at least, to even be worth the point.

If you can see the path that leads to the secret it is not much of a hidden path. Only a lazy player would want something that easy.

I understand the balance and/or graphics issues with lighting, but please don't make assumptions or assign negative terms like "lazy" to gamers who want to experience different gameplay. It's better to acknowledge and disagree with someone's opinion rather than just dismissing it.

Are you blind? The person I replied to just called the devs lazy which is of course an incredibly stupid thing for them to say. I turned it around back at them to show them how dumb it is to throw an insult like that.

How could you possibly miss that?

Or are you one of those people who don't think devs should be treated with respect instead of insults just because someone has a different preference with respect to gameplay?

I didn't recognize you were calling them out for using the same adjective. I don't usually reread quoted posts when I've read them just a few hours ago. That's how I missed the connection.

I was just hoping to preserve civility. Please recognize that some words have a larger emotional impact and tend to color how people read a post. Blind. Lazy. Incredibly stupid. Dumb. Insult. These words are emotionally charged and make me feel personally attacked when my own post is quoted, even if they aren't all directed at me. I tried not to use such terms when replying to you. Let's deescalate, shall we?

Hello everybody. I am a new player to the game and the first thing that bothers me is the thought "hmm it's very dark when I go into a cave with only the torch".

Might make the devs think about their decision...

I mean the radius could be the same I would even appreciate it if the light area itself would be brighter... currently in a cave with only the torch it almost looks like a muddy screen...

And I just saw that the "Magic Torch" fire spell is wayyy down the tree, you need more than 2 points in Fire Magic

In the 1.0 Beta the Magic Torch is near the top of the tree. You can get it for 2 points. Although it gives almost the exact same amount of light as the torch. Although using both gives slightly more as the center of those two light sources is slightly offset giving slightly greater coverage that just one or the other.

I think the issue is not with the light radius but with its brightness. It is quite hard to see anything in dark caves if you do not put torches literally everywhere.
For example, try to find coal in earth in Wheatfall region. It is very easy to miss it with the current torch.
