Late game in vanilla? Definitely NO.
Why? It's an "un-levelled" form, so it remains the same whether your level 1 or 80.
Your "mortal" form will be considerably stronger than your Lord form at higher levels.... That's Bethesda for you
Most who want Vampire/VLord gameplay will get mods to improve it, like Better Vampires, because Vanilla it's just.. not great.
its still really fun though. i love tossing biches around and throwing them off mountains. one of my fondest memories from this game is tossing isran to his death from the dawnguard castle balcony as a vamp lord.

Being in VLF is nice around water too, no wet feet. It helps tweaking vampire drain with the CK or xEdit so it is not so worthless. It's pretty fun to hold and choke someone while draining their life in a few seconds. It make being in form feel more powerful.
Faux mentioned werewolf. I think my favorite is using Immersive Patrols Heavy, pile up the ground with bodies, transform and eat everyone. You'll level werewolf pretty fast lol, plus it sounds cool.

The reason is that one of the restoration perks (necromage) makes "All spell more effective against undead".
Guess who's some kind of undead? The vampires =D
And guess what are enchantments on your own armor/weapons considered as? Yep, they're considered as magic.
Thus, with that perk, just by being vampire, all of your enchanted weapons/armor get waaaay stronger =D
That being said...I really hope the game gives me a way to remove the sunlight debuff. I'm fine if I'm a vampire and I just never bother with the Lord transformation because it's cumbersome, but with that debuff, I honestly think just being plain old human is more powerful, leaving aside werewolf entirely.
From wiki.
All benefits unrelated to targeting undead are due to an error in the game that misplaces a tag on all enchantments and effects, causing them to be affected by buffs to Restoration.
True, but just like the restoration loop it's a popular bug so alot of people enable it back or refuse to use the Unoffical Patch.
Go try some Blue Blood, hint hint.
Being unable to open the dawnstar chest made me real sad :(
Meh, I disagree with the sentiment since if you want to cheat you might as well just use the console.
