Nolvus will not help with updates - besides the fact that the particular poster uses that as an answer to everything. If you want to avoid updates, there are two options. The first is to protect your game from updates:

From PINNED TOPIC Helpful Links and References, Introduction

The second is to purchase the game from GOG ( https://www.gog.com/ ) which does not require Steam for the game and does not have auto-updating.

And, for those who do not have a pre-existing modded game, but have just purchased or are just creating a mod build, the only game version that should be used is the current supported one (whatever version that should happen to be - the current version is 1.6.1130).

Just set your Steam app manifest for Skyrim to read only. This prevents Steam from ever updating the game. It's the "appmanifest_489830.acf" file in your Steamapps folder. If it's read only Steam will just throw an error if it tries to update it.

If you launch via SKSE, just launch through the executable for the SKSE_Loader, or through your mod manager of choice, rather than Steam itself. I prefer just making a desktop shortcut of the SKSE_loader and renaming it to Skyrim.

I can't get any mods to work at all. I've uninstalled/reinstalled the game several times now, uninstalled/reinstalled Vortex, my mod manager of choice. Last week I was experimenting with mod lists, and the game was running just fine. Now, I can't get a single freaking mod to work. It's exasperating.

What else is it dependent on? Does it require other mods to make it work? I'm looking at the mod on Nexus, and I have to admit I'm not over knowledgeable about such things. Usually I just like to install a mod, and go play. It looks like this is a base mod for other mods? Hell if I know lol

I am sick of updates, but ti don't want to use SKSE.

Is there a reason for now wanting to use SKSE?
I am simply curious as to why.

1) pure laziness 2) my current mods don't use SKSE and I don't want to mess with my game again (but may have to) 3) I don't use a mod manager, and I am not that savy,

But I may have no choice
