you can find and read books in-game telling you more about what happened in the past
or you can read any wiki for the lore
On the other hand, this makes the game very bland and far too shallow for people who played any previous TES titles, but that's a topic for another debate. Simply enjoy Skyrim for a while, and afterwards, try out the earlier titles. Especially TES3:Morrowind will offer the most striking contrast to Skyrim. While it is certainly dated, the storytelling, worldbuilding and character design is leagues above Skyrim's.
I mean, I only playe Oblivion a bit, years after I played Skyrim, and I never even touched the older games.
Oh right, the books which i never read and the main mission I never play :D
(I've only played Skyrim, the older games are too inaccessible to me, never gonna touch them.)
Booo, you casual!
This is the only time the series had such a massive time skip, the main series games span 34 years. Arena Takes place 3E 399, and Oblivion Takes place 3E 433.
Yes it does.
The main story is - Slap the big bad dragon to save the world.
Then do whatever you want afterwards or ignore the big bad dragon and do whatever you want now without saving the world
100% not true.
Unless this was meant as a joke.
That depends entirely on whether you intend to play the earlier games, if you do they will appear outdated, unless the SkyWind and SkyBlivion projects get finished....
Daggerfall unity lets you play Daggerfall without feeling like you are in the 90s...
Skyrim maybe the best starting point because the controls are pretty easy and the UI layout even without mods are very straight forward. This will let you enjoy the game without distracting you from trying to remember which keys do what.
Last thing I would say is run the first play through without mods. Someone will say otherwise and that’s fine. However mods will sometimes break and having to troubleshoot on a first run in the game is no fun. If you enjoy the base game, mods will only enhance the experience later.
Enjoy and welcome to Elder Scrolls!
Not a bad game by any means, just... well, you can feel the age.
For me it's the fact that Oblivion is far more unstable than even New Vegas from what i heard.
And getting NV to run without crashing , stuttering and whatnot was a challenge.. so no ty for Oblivion :P
