weapon glitch
I'm playing vanilla skyrim, and on 5 different saved characters the same weapon glitch has happened, where I cannot attack you can hear the animation sounds of the attack but no animation and no damage being dealt... Any ideas for fix?

verify files. Troubleshoot your mods.

Try verifying the game files. (Right click the game name in your game list, go to Properties, Installed Files, then Verify.) Sounds like something may be missing or corrupted.

Do you have any mods at all? Not just ones you think might be the problem, but any mod?

I verified the files when it happened on my second saved character, as for mods, I have none installed.

maybe try a fresh reinstall by deleting the entire skyrim se folder, empty the bin. Then uninstall and reinstall. See if that worked.

As far as I am aware, there are only 2 possibilities. A missing/corrupted file, or a mod issue. There is a potential third possibility, but I don't think going too much above 60 FPS causes this kind of issue (like it does for a number of other things).

What version? Normal, SE, anniversary edition?

Install the Unofficial Fixes Patch, and the Engine fixes patch, and the SKSE64 patch. Those 1st two simply repair some glitches, and the 3rd (if you use Vortex at any rate) will be required BY Vortex so it can launch the game instead if using the steam launcher, and restores achievements even with the three mods installed.. Also, do not install them thru the in game installer. Use Vortex or MO2.

As a test, try capping your FPS to no more than 60 Hz. If you have a monitor/tv with a high refresh rate, turn off V-Sync.

Since you are playing without mods potentially with a high refresh rate, the game engine (which is 14+ years old) is not able to resolve the requests in the amount of time given. This can cause glitched behavior as the unresolved requests drop off and/or not resolved. Animations, quest queue's, items falling from the sky or scattering when you walk in the room, are all caused by this.

Note, this is a debated topic among the masses. However, the proponents of a high refresh rate neglect to confirm the truth that a capped game is more stable. An uncapped game isn't stable without help.
