Yeah, magic when you max it out pretty much stomps over any other magic-like mechanic in the game. Why bother with feeding and hostility when I can just drain life infinitely or pop a dead thrall for 0 magicka cost whenever I feel like it?
Well if you are going to be a mage, and we assume the unpatched Vanilla game, a Vampire mage will actually be better than a non vampire mage. For two main reasons: For one, you get the Champion of the Night permanent effect which makes Illusion spells 25% stronger. This is important if you use Illusion at all due to how Illusion spells are reliant on enemy level and will simply fail to affect them if they aren't strong enough against the enemy's level.
There is also the fact that Necromage affects your OWN spells, perks, and enchantments if you are a Vampire, unless you're running the unofficial patch.
Your not using it properly that's all.
I'd still happily give up any 10 spells in Skyrim just to be able to use the weakest spell from Legacy in it, Revelio. That spell alone offers more in-game utility than any spell in Skyrim.
Nah, the OP is right. It is pretty underwhelming in Skyrim and requires a lot to make it as good as the two other main archetypes in this game. And even when you make it good, it's still pretty boring to use. There's little variety or interesting or unique spells.
And if you compare it to the previous games, it's extremely shallow compared to what the Elder Scrolls used to offer for magic playstyles.
i didnt add any mods until id had the game for a few years. When you feel you have gotten what you can from the base game , there are some very good ones for expanding the magic system , college , perks ect , and a few good ones for making the vampire experience far more interesting.
Advantages of Vampire Lord are:
- "fast" backstep speed (same speed floating in all directions), makes it easy to kite
- constant Waterwalking effect really trolls stuff when you're outside
- explosive, ranged Absorb Health spell is pretty stronk, only balance is not being able to dualcast it
- the totally not a force choke spell is hilariously abusive
But if you use mods to give yourself the Absorb Health spell in non-Lord form and make a trivial edit to the Telekinesis spell, then yeah Vampire lord is pretty much just as useless as Werewolf.
