Noob-ish... where to sell stolen stuff early game
I haven't found many places in this first castle... general goods has bought some cups and mugs... but otherwise after taking what had 10 gold or more per lb throughout each place... I just stored all the books and everything else that wasn't being bought in a barrel near the exit.

I know I'm ten years late at best. Played through morrowind, oblivion, and all the fallouts from 1 to London, Starfield... Skyrim just... idk... it's optimized of all the other ES somewhat but still... you beat a dead horse so many times (get quest item, return with quest item, skill leveled) and I'm wandering in SSE either way. Tried to play this game so many times, and I'm not a hater but for me, the intro and other stuff killed it for me since it came out. Kept trying and then I heard we can at least fly on dragons at some point here. That's cool.

Still having a hard time early on selling all my stolen stuff so I'm just leaving it in a barrel. A phrase most of us long time bethesda players have probably said at some point or another.

In the early game the way to sell goods with the stolen tag is to hop a carriage to Riften and join the Thieve's Guild. Once you are in, you can sell stolen items to Tonilia.

The following wiki article has a section on other ways to remove a stolen tag.

Be careful about stashing your stuff out in the world; most containers respawn and you will lose your items. The following is what the wiki says about safe storage.

The following containers will never reset, thus they are permanently safe to store items.

All chests and containers inside purchasable houses.
All containers in the Abandoned House in Markarth.
The chest in Delphine's secret room inside the Sleeping Giant Inn.
The end table and wardrobe inside the ruined Helgen Inn.
The wardrobe in Riverside Shack.
The end table located in the Alchemist's Shack.
The Apothecary's Satchel located in the cellar of Anise's Cabin (and, by extension, the remaining containers within the house).
All the containers located within Drelas' Cottage.
The Arch-Mage's Quarters after completing the College of Winterhold questline.
The wardrobes in Dragonborn's room in the Hall of Attainment, at the College of Winterhold.
The chest at the entrance of Sky Haven Temple.
The metallic chest at the top of Valtheim Towers.
The ice runner chest in Broken Oar Grotto after the quest.
The chest inside Idgrod the Younger's room, in Highmoon Hall, Morthal.
All East Empire Company Strongboxes.DR
Severin Manor, if one has completed Served Cold.DR
All "wardrobes" and "bookcases" within the Volkihar Keep are safe for storage. Unless otherwise noted, the remaining containers respawn after ten days along with the rest of the keep.DG
All the containers within plots on which homesteads are constructed and within all homes that have been purchased.HF
The Chest in Weylin's Room after purchasing it.
The chest in front of High Hrothgar, where Klimmek's Supplies are to be placed for his miscellaneous quest.
The containers within houses owned by followers.

well then let's give him something useful...

if you REALLY want to circumvent the game mechanics of being a early-game thief before finding and becoming a TG member, and OK fair point, if no one saw you take it, then HTF does every random guard or vendor know it's stolen, it's a lazy mechanic anyway, right?

player.setav bypassvendorstolencheck 1
player.setav bypassvendorkeywordcheck 1

now you can sell anything to any vendor, whether or not it pertains to their Merchant package or if it was pilfered or not.

Not sure if that fixed but if you put stolen item to container in your home (maybe it works with any container) and then order your companion to "take all" from that container all stolen items become legal

Why go through all that fuzz? When a guard doesn't know you have stolen items in your inventory, how would a merchant know? Unless of course when they caught you in the act, which is never going to happen.
