Most are ... some aren't, same as any other update.

Most mods are working, as the critical mod libraries/plugins (SKSE, AddressLibrary, etc.) got updated to work with the latest game updates/ versions. Some mods/plugins still aren't working with latest game version though, but hopefully the mod authors are working on them.

If you are wanting to try out modded Skyrim, then go ahead, you should be able to use most mods you want.

For most ... but not all. 🫠

Honestly, I can’t think of one popular and widely used mod that either wasn’t updated to function with the newest game version, or wasn’t replaced by another mod which does the same thing.

People who continue to cling to 1.5.97 either do so because there’s some smaller, niche mods that they personally feel they can’t live without, out of some kind of misplaced spite/protest because they don’t like that those four CC pieces were added for free, and/or they’re convinced that 1.5.97 runs better and is more stable (which I don’t think there’s any objective evidence which proves that).

Most work, you should be OK to get back into it.

I'm still stuck on 1.6.640 myself, as it's the version with the most mods available outside of version 1.5.097. Many of the mods that I use haven't been updated to the current version yet, so 1.6.640 will be where I stay for now.

Just curious, what mods have not been updated from 1.6.640?

I'm still using 1.6.640 due to having a stable build. In the near future, I will be updating to the current version as older game / mod support is waning. This was the case with 1.5.97 after November 2021. Generally, I wait about 6 - 8 months before updating by performing a clean re-install.

At this point, there is very little reason why anyone would want to maintain on older game version. It's important to keep up on the current state of modding utilizing guided information; especially the following -

It’s great. I haven’t had any issues while using Trainwreck to identify crashes.

I'm also still using 1.6.640. There's literally no reason to upgrade. Even the newest creations added with the latest update still work on 1.6.640, so like, why do it when updating just allows less options for modding and more chance of instability?
