Economy Mods
Expanding my mod list for a new playthrough and want to enhance the economic aspect of the game.

Found a YouTube video by CaptPanda that’s not very old showcasing a couple of related mods and the ones that caught my interest were Trade and Barter, Trade Routes, Landlord, and Re-Real Estate.

Went looking them up and I have concerns…

Trade & Barter seems to be okay, but the others…

1. Many recent comments on Trade Routes say that the mod was never updated to function properly with 1.6+ and the result has been that inn vendors’ inventories are all kinds of messed up. Is that true?

2. Panda didn’t state this but I’m sorta assuming that Landlord and Re-Real Estate cannot be used together (or there’s no point in doing so since they do similar things in some of the same places).

3. Re-Real Estate also seems to not function well with the current version of the game. There also doesn’t seem to be much support/patches for city/town overhauls like COTN, JK, etc which concerns me.

Does anyone use these mods? Do they function on the current version?

I am playing with both Trade&Barter and Trade Routes. I have not noticed issues with inn inventories as such, except perhaps in relation to TR itself. If you are using it as most are - for regional pricing and demand - it works as exepcted.

With current TR, some distant inns might have very little stuff, while city inns might have quite a lot of it. This has not bothered me at all: I didn't expect to find more than salt and cabbages from Riverwood, while field around Whiteruns would be expected to provide for ingredients and bakery products.

I'm rebuilding my mod list atm. I still did not have tried economy mods but I did a bit research before. There are not many economy mods as it's clearly not interesting. It all depends of what you want.
1. Do you want an economy where gold is not being flowing in your pockets en masse
2. Do you want an economy where you can invest your golds and have it "work" for you?

Trade and Barter has been in my mod list for ages. Do know it has gotten an update recently! So Kryptopyr is still maintaining that mod

Concerning Trade Routes, I did have seen the problems with the inn inventory. I was going to check it with xEdit someday. Perhaps a fix can be found there?

Then, Re-Real Estate and Landlord, on first sight seems to be doing the same thing. I would not combine both.

My take on the economy is the first option (see above), so I am going to add C.O.I.N. and all the supplementing (like the trading) mod and probably scarcity. However for the last one, I have to investigate if it is not harmful to my load order ...

There are also some mods that introduce taxes to the game. Like "taxes of the nine holds". I still have to check if this one can be used in the current version ...

Thanks, that’s the impression I got as well. I’ll have to add it into my list and see how it is.

Trade and Barter doesn’t have regional economies though does it?

Thats my main interest in Trade Routes - having a system where a resource/material abundant in one region is cheap there but worth more in a region it’s rare.

I looked more into Landlord and Re-Real Estate and it does sound like they can be used together if you really want to.

Landlord though has many comments about the functions of the mod simply not working as advertised, or requiring “work arounds” like reloading saves, waiting days, leaving and coming back to cells, etc in order for some things to work properly - doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence and the mod maker seems to have abandoned the mod and has a “idgaf” attitude.

@Ilja

Comments made it sound like an issue with all inns.

If inn inventories are determined by access to nearby resources, I don’t mind that, but at the same time I would expect any inn to provide some amount of prepared foods. I mean, aside from room rentals, the purpose of inns/taverns is to provide food and drink to patrons. An inn like the Sleeping Giant only having a few salt piles and some raw cabbages isn’t very immersive or realistic.

As I play with iNeed, inns are pretty important to providing me with food and drink to stave off hunger and thirst.

I also wonder how other mods affect this, as I have a few that adds foods and drinks and Dirt and Blood soaps. Would TR wipe all that out, I wonder?

I might be wrong person to comment how functional TR is for people, who are actually using inn inventories for something.

My game has heavy survival theme, so I only buy something in absolutely emergency. My price anchor is set low, which is why many prices are very high. Only things I ever buy are spellbooks. Everything else I hunt or grow myself.

So, if player is actually interested of what village inn placed right above Skyrim's trade hub has to offer... I can't say if it is adequate or not.

In fact, I usually sleep in a tent outdoors, just across the river, unless I am on tour to train a new instrument.

I guess we'll have to just give it the ol' "try it and find out". I'll install it, start a new game and put myself in an inn with alt start and see whats what

EDIT: Nevermind. Looking at TR’s page some more it looks like all of its patches are for outdated versions of mods I have…it’s too bad it got abandoned. Would be great if someone either made a new mod that does the same thing, or updated TR.

I'm using RE - Real Estate Continued and it works great, although I don't have any city overhauls installed.
I have 1.6.1170.0 version - is this considered "current" version of the game?
