That said, you don't need galaxy to install/play gog games, you can download the game setup directly from their website. Galaxy is required if you want the extra stuff like Achievements and savegame cloud Sync.
Most of the wabbajack (and Vortex collections) modlists are for Steam version unfortunately, even if the mods itself are available for gog version too, the modlist authors don't care about converting it.
Oh no - so i bought it for nothing - great! I thought theres no big difference for mods if its installed through steam or not. FFS
Installing skyrim mods is easy - jea sure. Even pre install is a fcking nightmare. At least when u wanna be able to make backups
and thank you Great Satan for another forum poster who's preachin' the love of MO2 and instancing!
once you learn to use instancing[github.com], and the fact that MO2 doesn't care where the game resides as long as you point to it, Steam can keep it's "official" copy updated if it wants, couldn't care less, doesn't affect me or my various versions of Skyrim concurrently installed one bit. all it needs Steam client for is the Steamworks API wrapper on the executable to check if you're a legally allowed account to run this game for, nothing else.
it's not a nightmare, it's that you're trying to fly in and do something without learning how first. once you learn, it's no trouble at all. but GoG is DRM free isn't that their thing? so you can launch w/o galaxy running? and no forced updates, so hey maybe set up that version too, parallel installs, who cares?
Regarding instanced Mo2 setup - i think i have that running for Stalker Anomaly, cant quite remember, i installed that a few years ago.
because GOG Galaxy says its installing 0.1.3905696.
When i look at Sykrim collections at Nexus theres no version number like that???
And i guess theres no rolling back to older version like with steam, so if an update accidently goes through somehow one has to go back to zero and start a complete new setup?
The Anniversary update has to be manually donwloaded and than the setup exe manually started - but theres nothing that tells u that. Than the installer for the Anniversary update automatically hints to a new folder INSIDE my already defined Skyrim folder... i think nothing wrong of that because i thought thats an additional folder needed for that update/DLC .... Well - WRONG - that update now moved the whole game from MY CHOSEN SYKRIM folder into that subfolder - WTF???
So i might now cut out that folder and move it 1 folder up so i have the folder structure as intended. But now i cant find any otpion to tell Galaxy where it should address that Skyirm folder???
Äh really - and i thought GoG has this stuff figured out - NO it hasnt - this is confusing and amateurish ASF
mygod
*edit after restarting Galaxy theres now a function (hidden in 3 submenus) to import the Skyrim folder
Off to a great start.... maybe i should just forget about Skyrim. This amateurish handling of BASICS bs just gives me grey hairs. And mod installs will eat all my sanity in notime.
also read this for rollback
https://support.gog.com/hc/en-us/articles/4419630535057-The-rollback-feature-reverting-to-a-previous-version-of-the-game?product=gog
No idea why Bethesda/GOG renamed them like that, but you'll see the appropriate number in-game, on the left side of the system menu.
Now i just need to figure out how to keep my old Steam non AE setup on a different drive and being able to install a new collection on another drive - probably not possible.
Ur infos are really helpful, thanks guys
