Skyrim being popular is because it's too easy?
So yesterday the game hit another milestone in player count after so many years. Is this game still popular because one is modding for sure another is the game being mechanically least challenging and provides full player freedom without needing to have too much investment?

Its popular because it has no real competition on its small shelf. Much like dayz. People play both, mods are keeping them alive, both have garbage engines and no competition.
Someone has a chip on their shoulder because their favourite game didn't last as long before the developer stopped supporting it....

Skyrim is popular because it has no competition, the only games similar are Oblivion, morrowind and the might&magic series.
Mods keep it fresh, but it's the sheer lack of competition that's the main factor, Witcher isn't a competitor because it's not as free, BG3 isn't a compititor because of the limits on roaming around, etc...
Also what OP fails to comprehend that lots of us use mods and 1 thing you can do with mods is (shocker) make the game more difficult

Yeah. I need two followers to deal with dungeons around Whiterun. They are fine, if I am not being detected. If bandits detect me, I have to run behind Inigo's back and let him and third person (changes a lot) to take the first hits. Otherwise I am staring at reload window again.

Mods?
Yeah, more than few. :RoflOwlcat:

This game is as easy or difficult as you make it. Everything from dirt-in-the-mouth murder and dismemberment to Bambi prancing in a Hentai wonderland.

Why is this game popular? Silly question.

It's just fun. Large landscape, EXPLORATION!, underground (overground wombling free), Story, People like vikings...
Why is GTA5 still played? Large map, fun, Exploration, story etc..
simple formula.

If Gothic 3 didn't have such a bad engine it was far better than Oblivion but it's engine was even worse the Gamebryo (Bethesda's baste*edised version of it).

EDIT: Mods, mods make it.

I bought Standalone Dayz Back before pre-release. I just couldn't get into it. It's so slow then you come across a big player and sniped, dead.. It's a time sink that is a time waste. My opinion though, others may differ.

Also sure if you play a stealth archer, maybe try another build and see how that goes
You can just push the difficulty to expert to make it more engaging, that's at least what I recommend.

Skyrim just offers a good balance of realism, grit and powerfantasy in a very customizable package that it's easy to jump into in any case.
Argonian Maids are easy.
hah. points. cheap but made me lol anyway. reminds me of a Twain quote:

"the average human being is a perverse creature; and when he isn’t that, he is a practical joker."

My guess: big modding community and it's a true open world where players can play the way they want
Nobody gonna mention the game was recently on sale for the cheapest it's ever been at 90% off? Pretty sure that's a big reason why it had such a big player spike after all this time.
