Point of no return for the Main Quest?
I just realized I'm about 3/4 of the way through the main quest. I'm at Alduin's Wall now with Esbern and Delphine. But I definitely don't want to finish yet at all. I still want to run around doing side quests and exploring.

The reason I'm asking is because I read that in Lost to the Ages, Katria's spirit will be in Sovngard if I have completed that quest. And I see that's something like the second to last Main Quest. And I really liked that NPC so I wanted her to be there, living on so to speak.

Is there a point where I should stop? Will I lose out on anything if I finish the Main story line?

There are definately other quests that will add a little something to that final Journey. Jarl Elesyfs (can't spell her name) personal request, the Civil War if someone specific dies.

Never heard of your spoiler. But I never really do the Main Quest much anymore (maybe 5 times tops). Wonder why that happened, but that discussion is for another thread.

You can just do anything you want. There's no reason to continue a running quest, you're not forced to complete a running questline. After Alduin's Wall you have to go to Hight Hrothgar, but then you can make a detour. Finish the quest with Katria and after that go to the Greybeards.

Actually, when doing quests or questlines, you can do side or miscellaneous quests. Your choice.
You don't really lose anything, the games doesn't end there, you can keep playing after that point, so don't feel you need to finish up everything before you defeat Alduin,

Without spoiling what happens, you will get to a point where you capture a Dragon. The quest after that is the final quest of the Main Quest, but like I said, the game doesn't end.

As for you spoiler, pretty sure that does not happen.

What I read is:

When you finish Lost to the Ages, Katria thanks you and her ghost disappears. If you have finished the Svongard quest section of the main quest, her spirit will be in there. And if it's not completed yet, she won't.

As stated above, once you have a dragon trapped at Dragonsreach. The quest after that should be the one that takes you to Sovngarde. Best part is, that court mage has some... amusing interaction with the dragon while he's there.
Departing for Skuldafn is the point of no return.

Read closer. After the quest
When the quest is complete, Katria says,
"And now... I think I can rest. Farewell, my friend, wherever your travels take you."

She then disappears (with a bow of gratitude), bound for Sovngarde. Despite this, if the Sovngarde quest is done after this one, she will not be found there.
there's really no "point of no return" in skyrim unlike other modern games like Cyberpunk
Almost every quest can be delayed. Some quest givers will even tell your character to do something else for awhile and talk to them later. Others give you the option to decline their quest for the moment.

The only quest I can remember that is time limited is the celebration at the Orc settlements.
If you delay more than a day, the quest fails.

The point of no return is killing Paarthurnax, you will go to hell.
The point of no return is very clearly articulated to you. You won't accidentally get there

There is no point of no return. You can finish the main quest and still run around and do side quests and explore. But if you want to see Katria in Sovngarde.... just don't go into Sovngarde. Can't miss it, there's a big portal where a dragon priest is doing mumbo jumbo.

Anytime before that, you can just get out of the final quest using whatever means you want and return later.
The only point of no return is entering the portal in Skulfin or whatever the Dragon stronghold is called.

The point of no return is as soon as you leave for Skuldafn. You cannot go back once you arrive. Once you're there, you have to go all the way.
The point of no return is when you mount the dragon. You'll know when it happens.
