You can take a look at ENBs, think of them as an advanced version of reshade. SMIM makes the meshes of the game better, making them high-poly-ish.

I would recommend Cabbage ENB or Rudy ENB.

And that's all that's needed to make sykrim look great for a first time playthrough?

Pick a weather mod, a lighting mod, Static Mesh Improvement Mod, and a general texture overhaul like Noble Skyrim or Skyland. That will give you a much better look to your game, and there are a number of very good options that don't have any prerequisites to install. Once you install mods, however, don't uninstall any mod with a .esm, .esp, or .esl file in your current playthrough. Start a new game if you uninstall a mod like that.

If you just want an all-in-one, try Skyrim 202X[www.nexusmods.com]. You'll need a decent gaming PC for that, though.

Or you could piece together other stuff. For example, for landscape you might look at the following:
If you like the screenshots, you could install them all. However, these are rather high res textures, so they'd once again require a decent gaming PC.

So "Skyrim 202X" is a good AiO?

As many of us with extensive experience post whenever this question comes up, your best option is to play the game vanilla for at least a while, so you will at least know what the game looks like and have some idea of what you might want to change.

As to mods, you will find it helpful to read this - it has links to everything you need to get a modded game up and running:
