Randomly Freezing in game
Been having some trouble with my modded skyrim playthrough where the game randomly freezes but you can still hear sound, ambiance, all that jazz. I've been trying to fix it but I haven't had any luck. Since the game isn't technically crashing, there's no crash log for me to pull from, so I'm forced to rely on my modlist and whatever papyrus is telling me. I'll include a pastebin for the modlist here: https://pastebin.com/xBTYScKp

Papyrus is telling me that the VM is freezing a lot, I'm not sure what that means exactly or what could be causing it but any help would be greatly appreciated.

How long has the game been freezing for? How long has it done this?:starshine:

The past few days, since I made the mod list. Sometimes I can go a really long time with no crashing, and sometimes it can be pretty quick.

Not much to go on! The mod list isn't complete.
  • Is this from a modlist? If so, ask the modlist creator.
  • Are you using SKSE and related DLL plugins?
  • Are you using the 4 free creations or the full package (74 creations)?
  • Does it only freeze the game (original post) or does it also CTD (second post)?
  • FPS?
  • Regular manual saves or autosave/quicksave?
  • Whatever may be relevant.

VM freezes everytime the game stops scripts. It can be related, but usually is pretty normal when saving a game. However, if the VM is freezing midgame, it would be a freeze of the game. That's the whole purpose of freezing the VM.
It only could be a mod freezing your VM. So looking at your mod list, is the best approach.

It would help alot to test, whether the game freezing happens when playing without mods. It could also be related to something going on in the background not related to the game or mods.

Check, if you have added or removed or updated mods since the freezing happens. They are good candidates for causing the issue.

  • This is a modlist I put together, not one premade by someone else
  • I am using skse and the relating DLLs
  • I'm using the full anniversary edition, so all 74 I believe, although I'm not playing with survival mode on since I have frostfall
  • That's the thing, the game freezes but doesn't CTD, I should have worded that better in my last post, but there's no real crashing just freezing so I can't get any crash logs from crash logger
  • FPS is 120, and doesn't seem to have any dips or anything, outside of the freezing, it plays perfectly
  • Manual saves, no auto save

Could be the FPS unlock to run above 60 FPS. It makes your game run faster (with respect to scripts).

I did remove a mod when the freezing first happened, it was a grass mod that I thought might have been part of the culprit, but then the freezing kept happening, I haven't added the grass back since I'm still trying to figure out what's going on with it. Otherwise, I haven't added or removed anything else

Cap your FPS at 60 and see if the game still freezes.

I'll give it a try with just 60 fps!

The game is not meant to go over 60 frames per second and things can break if it goes over 60 and the engine can become unstable so it might be this.:orb:
