modded help: invisible horse models
hi there, i'm having an issue with a Single Horse Type being invisible. the gray dun (vilks) outside of whiterun is completely invisible aside from his harness and saddle. this also happened in the begining cutscene, tulius was on an invisible horse. i've disabled the saddle and harness retextures as well as custom barding (as suggested by a horse's life creator) and it didn't solve the issue.
this issue started after uninstalling Oblivion Horses SE and persisted onto a new save.
current horse related mods: a horse's life, animations: horse and rider, better horse dismounting, craftable horse barding, horse hide retexture, horses simply turn better, improved horse step sounds, 2k horse shoulder harness, yee haaaa horse saddle retexture, steeds of skyrim.

1. Verify your game files.

2. Reinstall all texture-related horse mods. Make sure that they are meant for SkyrimSE.

3. You uninstalled something? You can't remove anything with a plugin file (esm/esp/esl) and expect a save of the same character to continue working. Only pure texture/mesh replacers (without a plugin file) can be removed at will.

4. Sort your files with LOOT.

i will verify my game files again. as i said in my post, this issue persisted into a new save after removing the mod oblivion horses SE/AE.
i sort my mods with loot every time i update my mod list, and check for errors within loot every time as well. there are no errors related to horses.
edit: no change to the mysterious invisible horse

You mean a new character? Or a new save of the same character?

Did LOOT say anything in the summary?

I mean the LOOT summary which is shown after you've ran it.

By the way, are you using a mod manager?

I'll look into it.

From your mod, "A horse's life":
A Horse's Life is a fully standalone system that disables Skyrim’s vanilla horse mechanics, making it incompatible with other mods that alter horse functionality. Additionally, custom texture mods won’t work by default due to the way A Horse's Life manages horse skins. However, new textures can be integrated through a patch for full compatibility using the guides provided in the article section.

It seems that the patches don't (fully) work for you. Maybe there are simply too many horse mods at once, and they collide, or a patch is bugged. Usually, LOOT's summary will show if there are any known problems, incompatibilites, or if you're missing a patch somewhere.

You could also ask the mod's author for help, he should know best how his mod works.

i'm using vortex. loot almost always just shows 'no changes were made'

asking the mod author was the first thing i did and they were unable to find the problem. on loot, it doesn't show any incompatibilities or patches i need for the mod. the horse related mods i'm using with it are what were recommended by the mod author. sorry i'm not much help, this is the first time i've had a problem in my game i just can't fix.

i feel like i'm missing a horse model file in my game files, but if that was the case, all of them would be invisible, no? not like i can find the horse model file just sitting around, not even the wikis have the gray dun horse listed

I don't mean the automatic, built-in sorting, run the full LOOT, and check what the summary says.

At this point, I would've suggested checking the files with Xedit to find out what's wrong. Unfortunately, that requires some modding know-how. And Vortex isn't exactly the best choice if you want to find mod conflicts between a number of patches.

Hmm, maybe once I have more time, I might check the mods' structure. It's probably just a minor issue, a patch is likely placing a texture or mesh in the wrong folder.

You need to enable LOOT messages, it's in the plugins tab, under options (gear icon). Or just install LOOT, add it to Vortex, and launch it there.

Xedit is indispensable for troubleshooting. Maybe its time to learn it?

nothing new is showing up there that i haven't already seen on the loot program, unfortunately. still only a single error for something i cant delete without breaking my game lol

There's a guide in the pinned thread, it might be a good starting point:
https://steamcommunity.com/app/489830/discussions/0/2828702372997628701/
You need the sections 3&4.

Currently, I don't have enough time to delve into troubleshooting, maybe later.
