In all the times I've done this quest in order to get to the Soul Cairn where Serana's mum is in hiding, I've never heard her mention anything about interlopers.
If you're already a vampire, then there are 2 Dawnguard outside the castle. One to the right by the beach and one in the tower.
Once they're dealt with, just follow the along the side of the castle in a clockwise direction, take out the 4 or 5 skeletons that are lurking near the castles rear entrance and the door is up the stairs on the let hand side.
Go through door and just carry on the quest.
You wouldn't have a property where you've been with Serana and told her she can stay there, per chance? I know that breaks Serana and she'll just keep walking away.
I've told CuSith and Skritch to go back home but I still have Lydia from Whiterun following me around. Maybe it's her?
Even just do it as a quick test to see if it works before going back to your current Situation.
Yea I mean I've killed both of those Dawnguard scouts a thousand times and I am a vampire. I have Skritch and Lydia following me and I have dismissed Skritch before but that didn't do anything maybe it's Lydia. Also, I need a key for unlocking that door and I think Serana has it. Yea I guess maybe I should get rid of Lydia? Idk this game has been fun until this annoying part. [/quote]
I've never needed a key to open that door you talk about. I'm guessing it's the very first door you get to where if you turn around from facing that door, you've got the sea there.
For me, it's always been open.
Out of pure interest, have you got the MOD Alternate Start - Live Another Life - SSE?
And if so, get the MOD that can go with it called Alternate Start - Child of Coldharbour.
Just start a new game picking the option of being a child of cold harbour.
It starts you off a a vampire in a cave not far from where Castle Volkihar is.
It misses all the bit about you needing to find Serana in her entombment and you first have to go to the castle to do the Bloodstone Chalice quest. Once that's done, then Serana will speak to you about looking for her mum, which is where you're having the problem you first described. But this time, you won't have any other followers. Just you and Serana.
If you have the same problem doing it this way, then you really have a very weird problem/bug.

Thank you for the help but Im really not trying to have to start a whole new game and download a mod just to do the quest. Idk I've called bethesda customer support and there was no response. Idk I just want to play the game and complete the quest the right way. Do you have any other ideas I could do? Thank you for the help man or woman or they I appreciate it.
Anything just to try to rest Serana.
Once you done something else, then head back to to the castle and see if that's cleared up this "interloper" problem?
