No warmth value on chesko’s Campfire cloaks?
Got Skyrim Special Edition running on Debian and originally set it to Survival Mode. Then I decided to add chesko’s Campfire mod because I needed to be able to craft and use decent camping gear and cloaks.

However, the cloaks I can create in the Campfire menu have 0 warmth value. I’ve been all over the internet trying to find a fix for this and I’ve since installed:
- SkyUI and the SkyUI survival mode patch
- USSE and the Unofficial Skyrim Creation Club Content Patch
- Frostfall 3 (which I’ve fiddled with activating while turning off survival mode, though survival mode doesn’t seem to be actually turned off in game)
- Cloaks of Skyrim
- Rich Skyrim Merchants (for unrelated reasons)

I had been going to install the survival mode patch for cloaks of Skyrim, too, but began to get into a web of dependencies. Some of the required mods for that aren’t really my cup of tea. Each required mod has its own required mods and I just want to be warmer on a snowy peak.

There’s still no warmth value on my cloaks!

It’s a pretty annoying issue because, without the additional warmth of a cloak, my stating power in frigid temperatures is impractically short. I crafted a fur cloak to test this and it’s just doing nothing for my warmth (even if it’s great for my look).

Also, while going on a test quest for Danica’s Nettlebane, I discovered that I don’t seem to be feeling warmth from my own fire either. I can approach another’s fire and get warm (thanks to the random Stormcloak camp on the route!) but when I build my own fire it doesn’t seem to warm me up at all.

Has anyone any idea what’s going on here or how I might fix it? I found a random post suggesting a fix in xedit for the cloak problem, due to them being in the necklace category in error, but it didn’t give any detail and googling it has been no help.

You tried this one? Has no dependencies you don't already have.

If there's not already a patch for it then this is what you will have to do (for your campfire problem too).
This Reddit thread might be a good start.

Did you even look?

https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/19154

Campfire was made before Survival Mode hit the CC. If memory serves me correctly, SM uses the keyword system to identify what clothing provides warmth (via a “warmth” keyword being attached to the item). As CF was before SM, its cloaks and campfires don’t have that keyword attached to them and thus are not recognized by SM.

This applies to any other mods that add in clothing/armor, new fire sources (campfires, bonfires, braziers, etc), or hot foods - if the mod maker didn’t attach the “warmth” keyword to anything - it won’t be recognized by SM - and will need a patch.

Thank you, that does explain a lot! I appreciate it.

Amazing. Thanks so much!
You should use the mod Fear linked and ignore everything I wrote XD

XD thanks!

I had a look at both and Fear’s seemed the best match. The patch worked and I have a warm cloak and useful fires, now!

That said, dunno if it’s this mod or another, but something’s up with Frostfall’s mod config menu settings. All the direct UI in game is fine, but the menu in system is all tags or something. Weird.

Honestly, I’m tempted to start a new game and just not enable survival mode. It seems to be pickling everything else. Cloaks of Skyrim didn’t work at all in the end.

Though I will say that Frostfall’s momentary unequipping of all gear while starting up was a tad awkward during a random double-dragon attack (one with frost breath, one with fire)!

While I love Forstfall, I found it troublesome in Special Edition. I moved to SunHelm instead, which works fine. I am only missing wet clothes. R.A.S.S. and Wet and Cold - Gear are handling shaders and weather gear.

Something to consider if Frostfall isn't running too well for you.

No need to start a new game, just turn it off

Ooh. Thanks! I’ll look into those.

I did turn it off, but it didn’t seem to actually turn off. I unchecked it in settings and still had the hunger and rest penalties afterwards - and this was before I turned on Frostfall.

I just feel like everything’s a bit glitchy.

I’m curious, how does Sunhelm compare to iNeed?

I’ve used iNeed forever and it’s never given me problems and I’ve not felt like it’s been missing anything, but I know it’s an old mod and perhaps a bit “outdated” in some respects.

Would you say that Sunhelm is objectively better than iNeed? Does it do things better than iNeed?

I can't say if Sunhelm is better than iNeed, because it depends on what player is after. Sunhelm is definitely far lighter than Frostfall and/or iNeed.

I noticed that both Frostfall and iNeed had plenty of conditional(!) issues with 64bit game. Neither of them was fully brought over and they are more resource hungry in SE than they should. How big of a problem this is depends entirely of load order. For example, I have well expanded Legacy of the Dragonborn + few hungry tickers. Keeping the Papyrus stress otherwise light is pretty big priority with this mod list.

Sunhelm does have less features than iNeed, for example it does not have food spoilage. Mod also relies only on warmth values for clothes, not their wetness or protective type.

If Frostfall and/or iNeed run well with your load order, then stick with them. If you have problems, get tired of some features or just want less Papyrus hungry solutions, jump over to Sunhelm.

Thanks, I’ll look into it a little more for my next mod list update/new playthrough.

If Sunhelm isn’t drastically different from iNeed but is lighter and less script heavy than it - I’d want that. I wouldn’t say script lag is an issue in my LO but I can definitely tell sometimes it’s there.
