Issues with sound
Hey guys,

So, I typically leave Skyrim SE backgrounded (running in the background) when I go to bed, so I don't have to re-launch it the next time that I wish to play.

I use headphones via my laptop's 3.5mm headphone jack (no Bluetooth here!).

When I close down my laptop for the night, I unplug my headphones from the 3.5mm jack.

The next day, I plug them back in, and alt+tab to Skyrim to resume playing my game.

My issue is that there is no sound. There was sound the previous night. It's like the game doesn't recognise that the headphones have been plugged back in. The only fix that I currently have is to quit the game and restart it (or, don't unplug the headphones). I prefer to unplug the headphones when not in use, since I have a rather mischievous 11 year old niece that can't keep her fingers off things that don't belong to her and I'd rather not break the 3.5mm headphone jack port on the laptop's motherboard by having pressure placed on it.

Why does the game do this and is there a way to fix this without having to resort to quitting and restarting the game?

Cheers in advance.

Dave

So, are you looking for help, or are you bragging about your enormous wealth, which allows you to run a gaming laptop non-stop? Boo, I say. Boo!

Okay, jokes aside, it is likely an issue with your power saving settings, which kick in once the lid is closed. Solution? Like every normal person, turn off your laptop overnight. Such continous use is a good way to fry it.

It's your sound drivers/audio detection man. There's no fix for that im aware of, sorry.
It happens to me too -if i were to unplug the audio jack during ANY game.
Tarkov, Squad, Skyrim.

if the game starts and there is an active audio source, it will be fine. But as soon as the active source disappears, the sound source is perma-f***kd till the application is restarted and the audio source can be picked up again.

You can try disabling ALL other audio sources (besides your headphones), so that the source won't auto-switch to the next available. You see what im saying?

try that. let us know.

25+ years of using laptops and have never seen this yet. 15 years of IT experience and never seen a customer report this either. Perhaps I've been lucky.

Thanks for the heads up. I suspected this would be the case, but was hoping it wasn't and there was an alternative.

I either have the headphones unplugged or plugged in when using the laptop. So, I could disable the laptop speakers I guess. Should force Skyrim to output sound to the 3.5mm jack no matter what.

Sorry for the late response, I got no email confirming responses to my post.
