SKSE 2.2.6 not working for my version of skyrim.
I was moving files and drives around in my comp and I re downloaded all my mods and everything should be up to date, but when I try to launch SKSE in the local files folder I get a warning about SKSE not being able to load and when i try to open the game it just doesn't work. Any ideas what I can do?

Have you launched the game from vanilla launcher at least once? It sounds to me that xSE can not find path to game, after swapping those files around. Running the game through vanilla launcher will register paths for it.

I did this, but it still doesn't work. When trying to open the SKSE loader it gives me an error about a .dll plugin causing errors because it couldn't load correctly. I disabled the mod but it still won't load but doesn't give me the error before it tries to load.
Okay, you moved the folder, but from which location?

Just to test it, try to start the SKSE launcher as admin.

I moved steam from the programs folder to a separate SSD altogether. Running as administrator does the same thing as running it not as an admin
Hold on. How did you move them?

There is no reason to move Steam itself. It can sit in default location. However, game folders can be added to other drives. I have my own Steam at C, but games at D.

Paths are correct, if files are installed to new drives through Steam. You can create a new game folder per drive.

Which is why I am asking about how they were moved. If you did that manually, then registers are likely messed up.

Yeah, that's a really bad idea. Windows is pretty paranoid about the Programs folder, and moving something out of it will likely mess up permissions and other things.

everything else works fine, it's just this mod with skyrim after I had to redownload it and it's completely up to date. I can play literally anything else and it works fine.

Open up your Skyrim folder and see if they added the skse.loader and the skse dll. if they are not there then the install didnt work i guess.

And yet, this is Steam's official guidance about moving the Steam installation:
https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/4BD4-4528-6B2E-8327#exist

(close Steam, delete unnecessary files, copy Steam folder, move it, run it, done)

umm maybe you should take a back seat. windows defender blocks many mods from working so him changing to a seperate drive is the best option. also skyrim sse got a update so skse doesnt work right now

okay so i found that for the time being you need to load the skse loader itself in order to play with mods. skyrim had an update that broke alot of stuff because thats what bugthesda does best. as long as your mods are installed they still should load

False. SSE hasn't had an update in over a year.
Security application questions would have been next in line. It is plausible that xSE is now getting silently blocked. However, it sounds strange that it would get blocked outside of Program Files, if it was not getting blocked inside of it.

So, I am still rooting for some sort of path/registry issue.

Yep. xSE updates usually come out within hours or days anyway, depending on how much BGS changes has affected to memory addresses. Those CC updates do not really cause a big havok in the library. Ian often just needs to fix address or two, before releasing the new version for public.

So, SKSE 2.2.6 should work with the most up to date version of SSE, right? 1.6.11670 or something like that?

Yes.

The version information is given on Nexus download page. The original download site for all BGS xSE applications (SKSE, FO4SE etc.) is at Silverlock. You can see various versions for Skyrim also from there.
