Over the years I've seen hundreds of people say they want dark souls combat for this game. Not to mention all the popular mods that so exactly that
you can semi-parry in Skyrim (and I'm pretty sure in Oblivion) by shield bashing to interrupt attacks, with or without a shield.
I mean, if we're going by "popular mods" as metric for estimating what ES6 is going to bring for us, we should reasonably expect their top 3 priorities to be photo-realistic sex, bug fixes, and serviceable UI's.
So you'll forgive me if I don't hold my breath or otherwise become anxious over "well, some people on the internet like Dark Souls."
I never said that I expect tes 6 to be dark souls, I said I've seen tons of fans asking for it over the years in response to a person say they've never heard that.
And that's fine, but my point still stands.
Popular in the context of mods for Skyrim, just means "highly downloaded across a specific unit of time." I'd be more concerned about them hiring USLEEP coders than I would about them converting ES6 to Soulsborne.
What's your point? The thread OP didn't say they're worried the game is going to be turned into Dark Souls either...they were just asking why some people want that.
Seriously though, that's a crowded market. So many Souls-likes, compared to simply open-world first-person RPGs that aren't specifically Souls-likes. It seems to me that making TES 6 yet another one would be a bad business decision, but then again bad business decisions seem to be pretty popular among larger developers and producers these days so make of that what you will.
Personally, I wouldn't mind if the next Elder Scrolls had combat more akin to, say, Horizon Zero Dawn/Forbidden West. That way, things such as timing, parrying, dodging are still important to the gameplay, but it wouldn't be completely devastating if your timing is just slightly off once, and you don't have to start the whole battle over because of it.
Souls-like enjoyers are welcome to have at it, but most people aren't masochists and simply don't want to struggle through one fight dozens of times before finally winning. Also, just for me, personally, even if I do eventually beat a section of a game that i'm struggling with, after a certain point there's no longer any sense of gratification or accomplishment. I just resent and hate myself for not being able to do it sooner.
My point is that the OP's fears are entirely unfounded.
Your fears are entirely unfounded.
EDIT: to clarify, no, you are not "just asking WHY" because you already know EXACTLY why. You literally posted it yourself:
You KNOW "why" and you don't AGREE with them. Which is fine. But it isn't going to happen either way, so there's little point to posting AT ALL unless you just literally like saying "hey, I think this way."
No, actually. I just won the lottery and I'm mad about it.
