The three house of hearthfire
I have thought about the three best configuration of house in hearthfire.

1)The house of epervine should have the bedroom, the library and the reserve. Because it the favourite house of the children of Skyrim. So this house is for children, book and stocking stuff
2)One of the other house should have the enchantment room, the trophee room and the armory (it' a house to show off)
3)The last one of your choice should have the green house, the laboratory and the kitchen (this house is for cooking and elaborate potion)

What do you think of my composition ? Maybe you should choose for me which one of the two last house i didn't built yet would match with the right configuration

I choose Epervine to the house of the family because the climate is better and the child say the other house are too cold but they are happy with the Epervine house.

I am making an assumption that 'Epervine' translates to English as Lakeview Manor.

If so, the 'best' home in Skyrim for children is Proudspire Manor in Solitude.

If you have a spouse and children at any of the Hearthfire homes, the spouse will eventually complain that the home is too dangerous for children.

As to layout of the Hearthfire homes, it depends on what function they will perform.

In my current game, Lakeview is my crafting center. It has the entryway, armory, storage, cellar, and bedroom.

Winstead and Heljarken I use as follower halls. Keep the small house layout with the double bed, and add the kitchen, trophy room, and bedroom. This gives beds for Steward, Housecarl and up to six followers.

Needless to say, several mods are in play.

They will eventually complain even in cities. Unless they are actually angry (like some of them are, when you drag them in to HF home) then it's just common complaining. All spouses are set to "worry." If it isn't that initial angry reaction, they are just in the mood for it.

i had complaints in Riften, but never had children in Markarth or Windhelm. I honestly do not think I ever had children in Whiterun, of all places. The only place I ever received praise from a spouse is Solitude.

Is that why it's better without a spouse .. to be without the complaints?
Or is that a sign of it being a vanilla spouse?

I know two of my best playthroughs with modded spouses there were NO complaints :-D For me the best one was with Vilja Follower and another was a wife from 3DNPC.

Yes, vanilla spouse(s). I have had no complaints from 3DNPC spouses. (My favorite)

Which 3DNPC was your favourite ? I have forgotten the name of the one I had used although her main role was being an understanding follower wife. AH ... yep remembered Isobel .. she was great.

There are several; Jade, she is kinda silly but a good thief. Zora, good tiny-tank with hours of commentary. Tikrid, a more attentive version of Lydia.

Never did much with Isobel, just let her do her smithing. Always liked Anduniel's voice work.

I seem to remember Tikrid had a sister ? or was related to a quest with a Dark brotherhood female assassin who, I would have loved marrying, had a brilliant voice great characteristics a whirling Dervish with dual blades. But after dismissing her to end her quest she was eliminated from game. As in even the console couldn't bring her back .. but that was an early version of 3DNPC.

Tikrid's sister is Betild, the mine boss in Dawnstar. She is the target of a DB contract.
