Or if you're anything like me.
Sneak up on enemy. Take aim. Fire. Miss. Run away.
It's a totally valid way to play Skyrim that I'm sure 99.9% of players have used in the past.
Another good build is a Spell Sword. They have a ranged attack, though not as far as an archer, but have an advantage is once you've cast a spell at the enemy, you've got a nice sharp pointy weapon in your other hand.
Then it was taken literally by social media as a whole.
Like, for example, taking up position on a hill above a place like Halted Stream Camp and sniping the Bandits.
But it’s not a very viable or fun playstyle to commit to for the entire game. Most of the interiors are tight knit spaces where you can’t get a good angle on an enemy without them seeing you or being able to get to you before you can kill them.
Can it be done? Sure.
Playing the game naked and only using a fork as a weapon is also possible, but that doesn’t mean it’s all that fun in every instance or after the initial “lol this is so funny” feeling wears off.
If I go with an archer main character I usually go the “Legolas route” and carry twin daggers or swords/short-swords (Heavy Armory mod) for interiors or when an enemy gets on top of me before I can kill them.

I've recently started again as a sword/shield/heavy armour build dealing with enemies up front and it's a lot more fun.
You might occassionally have the NPC dodge even though it's a surprise attack (Which is a flaw in D&D mechanics that the game duplicates behind the scenes), but you can sneak away without being detected and come back when they stop looking, meaning you can get a near infinite chances at killing them, even if it sometimes takes two or three hits...
That doesn't make it quick, just nearly unstoppable if you are patient.
Charge in with your shield held high, let the echo of your iron boots set the fear of God in anyone still brave enough to stand against this myth of a man before you decapitate the nearest one with your axe just to let the rest know what`s coming, before you change to the broad sword to really let the heads fly like any self respecting Nord hero should.
