if Skyrim was made a medieval combat simulator, 7/8ths the player base would quit immediately or look for mods to put it back the arcade-y way. :-) he's wearing plate, what do you think smacking him in the arm with your sword does besides chip your edge and risk ruining another sword? aim for the joints or switch to a mace! no, you missed. no you missed again. oh you're dead. but he only hit me once with a dagger! yeah, in the throat.
if you want guns, add guns, it's no crazier than anything else people mod in. but balanced, well, playbalancing damage, that's on the person who implements it. hopefully they include an MCM panel so you can tweak it.
