Dying from absolutely everything after one hit
Dear community,

I really do hope some are able to help me out with this very peculiar issue I am experiencing in Skyrim at the moment. Recently, in the last two days I have been dying from absolutely everything - after just one hit. It has nothing to do with my difficulty, low health points, armor etc. However, I personally believe one of the main reasons why this bug occurs, is due to the fact I have been using console commands to change from race to race (example: player.setrace imperialracevampire) after my Vampire Lord revert form (transformation back to human) is broken. (Broken in the sense that my imperial character changes to dark elf after revert form) If any of you who reads this, has experieced something similar and know a way to fix this, I would greatly appreciate it. One thing I would like to point out, is that I don't die or experiece this bug when I am in the Vampire Lord form. When I play as the Vampire Lord I can withstand almost infinite damage, as I have utilized console commands to boost my health to 10 000 hp.

Maybe check your difficulty level? Legendary does that.

And, no, I will not become a vampire like you. I like society and the divines too much. :p

Simple really, go to the store and buy a mouse trap, go home and pry the ~ key off the keyboard, place the ~ key where the cheese goes on the trap and set the trap.

Now start a new game and when you want to use the command console press the ~ key on the mouse trap, then reset it and start again.

Maybe not, but its the best answer, you shouldn't be using the ~ key at all unless its absolutely necessary, its well known that it can screw your game up further down the line, i like DPMR's response, its a worthy one.

Oh okay. Noted for the future! Sorry DPMR. :( Didn't know ~ can screw up my game as bad as a broken mod.

Can I ask at least what the point of using ~ is for then? I know it's used sometimes for troubleshooting, but that's about it. I only ever had to use console commands on Fallout 4 because someone would not advance a quest properly.

Eh. It's alright. It's not a big deal. I haven't had that issue since.

It's a last resort for when everything else has failed..... there are a handful of safe commands... as safe as you can get in a game that can spontaneously develop bugs from nothing.

Best advice is to only use the console if someone or a wiki tells you it's safe to do so, and it's usually a case specific umm case. ie it's ok to do so this time, but the command isn't necessarily safe.

I have played with the console in the past, but I was always aware that it could screw up my game and if it did so then it was my fault (the last bit is the important bit).

I occassionally chip in and point out the only way for people to get a feel for console commands is to use them..... But it's always a case of "on your own head be it" because it can always glitch the game.

well as console there are mods that can glich your game the same way. just use it wise. its your game. i use it a lot for fun play but only after i do from normal play hard save first. try reset via racemenu.

The console can be a fun plaything, but not on a "real" playthrough.

In my experience it is safe for dropping some lockpicks if they run out in early game, or something like that. But even "setstage" used for quests that don´t seem to start is risky.

TCL for when you're stuck (why does Lydia always have to stand in the doorway?) and player.additem for when you feel like cheating. Everything else is a risk so make a proper save before you do it and realise that the consequences don't always make themselves apparent until some hours down the line.
