Help, stuck in Potema's refuge / sanctum / catacombs
So I got the bright idea to get my level 22 melee weapon/mage butt in the quest 'The Wolf Queen awakens'. Bad idea, because I can't really beat Draugr deathlords yet. (Was I supposed to know that beforehand?)

So I got myself to Potema's Sanctum and managed to kill most draugrs and vampires. But that last one is the deathlord and he's been kicking my butt all night. I'm all out of health potions and food, and while I can do a fast healing spell, that means I can't deal enough damage with my warhammer to actually beat this guy.

So basically, I want to run away. However, I can't get through the turning doors anymore in Potema's Refuge! All the posts I can find say that there's a shortcut behind Potema's throne, but without beating him (and Potema), I can't get there.

Then my loaded games seem to have a glitch, because I've got like 4 saves within these catacombs (after the turning doors), but beyond that I just have the first 5 loaded games - so level 1/2, at the most.

Dear god don't tell me I either have to go 20 levels back or I'm stuck here forever. Both will put me off this game, I'm serious. HELP.

This isn't something I'd normally suggest, because using console commands are an absolute last resort, but . . .

Have you considered simply going God Mode? You'd be immune to all damage that way and could kill the draugr deathlord without worries. You could then turn God Mode off afterward.

This is the console command: tgm

To turn off God Mode after the battle, simply open the console again and re-type the code. It'll turn it off.

I'd wait to see if anyone has a better idea for you before taking my advice, but since you're trapped and can't leave and can't seem to make any progress, toggling God Mode is the only idea that comes to mind for me.

Have you dropped the difficulty level as low as it will go? You can put it back after the fight.

^ Yes, this, actually! Have lowered the game to easy? This would be the best thing to try to start with.

This is why i always play with followers in the early levels (up to atleast 30 or so)

Honestly I'm probably already at easy? But will check, thanks!

I had Lydia but I accidentally killed her :( That's the problem of playing a game the first time round without knowing anything about it, I guess. I didn't know that friendly fire could actually kill a follower. You live, you learn... but Lydia dies.

Thanks for the tip, will keep it in mind in case I really can't get out.

Go grab Faendal the archer in Riverwood to replace Lydia.

Do not do this. Faendal will try and kill you as soon as you steal something or murder someone.

Never had that happen to me. But hey, just don't do that with him around. Use him wisely if that's the case, as in only for a extra weapon. Plus he's a great distraction during combat.

Will do that after, but can't do that now as I'm stuck in the catacombs.

Well now that you learned about Lydia being killable you could reload the save just before she died. Does not have to be all the way 20 levels but hopefully one of those saves she was alive.

For some reason I don't have any of the previous saved games anymore, except the last 5 (in the catacombs) and the first 5 of the entire game, so level 1/2? I don't understand what happened, but I can't go back to Lydia being alive, or to just before I entered the catacombs, or any other step. They seem to have disappeared.

Next time you're not in game and are about to load it up instead of clicking "continue" click "Load". Long Shot but there may be more saves there.

Unfortunately they weren't. No idea what went wrong with the saved games. I ended up using god mode just to get past the deathlord. Going to be a bit more careful from now on.. (And find a new follower).
