Best way is to learn as you go IMO that's what i'm doing.

the loading screens are lying about the bears
Welcome to the adventure. Pretty much learn as you go for your first playthrough. Don't rush and experience at a pace you are comfortable with.

A note with character creation: There aren't classes. Whatever a race is strong with at the start, that doesn't mean others can't reach the same point long-term. Just think of it is they got a head start on that path, but up to you where you end up.

And since the game has a huge modding community, I only suggest play through the game seeing how it is intended first. That way you know what (if anything) you want to mod, be it cleaning up the U.I., bug fixes (such as the Unofficial Patch), revamping perks, adding quests, etc.

So just play and enjoy and eventually you'll know if you want to start over with a focus on what you want to do in your game or delve into mods.

I would suggest starting a vanilla game, When you are not playing look at the mod categories on Nexus and see what can be done with the game. When you get around lvl 20 you should know if you want to continue the vanilla game or to get a bunch of mods and restart. It may not seem like it on the first play through but lvl 20 is not much to give up if you want the mods. Also do not add or remove mods mid game as bad things happen.

Start vanilla.
When you get fed up with UI, install SkyUI.
When you get fed up with bugs, install USSEP.
When you get fed up with follower controls, install NFF.

Realize that this is the turning point. You can either proceed with your game, or give your soul to modding. You will suffer constant restarterius, thinking how cool the game will be, when you are finally done.

In any case, you might want to throw these two in. They do not change your vanilla experience of the game. They just cut down pointless frustration. There are few fixes that BGS should have done back in 2011, but dialog and message controls are still a problem.

Begin my journey on the Switch, loved every bit of it. Even Vanilla is fun but soon enough we all end up at Nexus Mods. Either way have fun!

Alternatively, just don't use a follower.

Wh... who is carrying all your stuff?:Owlcat_suspecting:

Modded babble.
I am using 2-3 followers + horse inventory. I am still constantly overburdened.

Also, my combat mods in my game make it almost impossible to survive on my own. 2-3 strikes and I am dead. Getting surrounded is not an option. My usual place in combat is "hiding behind Inigo's back." :ShockedOwlcat:

Don't get trolled on the way to the Greybeards.
When you get fed up with the children of Skyrim, install the Killable Children mod.

Edited: Also, I suggest installing this mod that stops the constant, annoying, immersion breaking vampire attacks constantly, I can't stand that ♥♥♥♥.

Because those city attacks were removed from SSE on launch.

I bought this game for the third time yesterday.

Skyrim
Skyrim SE
Skyrim Anniversary

This time on GOG for the baked in Creation Club content. No more downloading Anniversary content from bethesda for another 20 minutes. It is baked into the game install.

First run through you will need some help on some puzzles. Overall you wont need much hand holding and outside help. Its just a few quests that if you have no idea you will be mathematically trying the solutions and that gets boring quick. So just look up the solution to the doors to get through. It is only a few doors or puzzles you need help with and they are all near the start of the game.

Dont mod the first time.
Back up your game saves or have steam back them up
Back up your game saves anyway.

The reason i say don't mod is that the game in anniversary edition has a ton of content to start with. IF you add even more it just gets insane.

Stick with vanilla first. Then once through you can add crap or play a different class.

Make a save after the carriage ride intro that takes forever and cant be skipped.

After carriage ride BUT before you make your character.

So you can go back and load this save to make new characters and not have to go through non-skip able content for every single class you want to try.

This save will be EASY to find. Its the first or second one. Game says it does a save but this is an auto save and not a full save. So do a save and get a full slot save.
