Skyrim Anniversary Edition GOG vs Steam
So I ended up buying the Anniversary Edition on both GOG and Steam, and have noticed a difference. For one, the creations menu is missing from the GOG version, however all of the AE content is baked in, meaning you don't have to connect to bethesda servers and download them all on first boot. Why couldn't they do this with the Steam version?

GOG’s version has all the AE content baked in for a fully offline experience (their DRM-Free Philosophy), which is why the creations menu (requiring bethesda’s servers) is missing.

Steam integrates with bethesda’s online services, so it requires a connection to download the content and access the creations menu.

It’s basically a trade-off between offline convenience (GOG) and online features (Steam).

Also, have you experienced any memory leak issues [www.gog.com] with the GOG version?

sounds horrible if the CC is baked in because some of them get updates with bug fixes that the unofficial patches don't touch

CC access is baked in, but otherwise creations (excluding AE content that is part of the official game release in Steam) are not.

Creations have their own unofficial patch.

For me it's just a separate file 2.5 gigabytes big. And what i don't want i delete in my folder.

I checked out that memory leak issue, and it appears using DXVK fixes it. Being as I'm running Bazzite os, DXVK is on by default, so I wouldn't have the issues they're reporting.
