Since 2011, there is still no game like Skyrim
Especially with mods

You can make skyrim into disneyland, a post-apocalyptic game like Fallout but fantasy (or not fantasy at all). You can turn it into the best NSFW game of any NSFW games, you can make it look better (Nolvus 2025 for the win and LoreRim as well) than any NEW game from 2025. You can add so much content to it with all the mods you can also make it the BIGGEST game of all time (except daggerfall still wins this for biggest map, and morrowind with all the new land mods are really big though dunno how much bigger/smaller than skyrim with new land mods)...but in terms of sheer content, skyrim wins out of any 2025 game.

You can make skyrim any game from your dreams! Just with mods!

Even vanilla skyrim is still alive today with all the DLCs and AE content.

No game has yet to beat skyrim in sheer content, graphics (mods) or gameplay (mostly mods). Even beats ALL NSFW games if that is what your into.

This is why skyrim still wins in 2025

Even when the developers try, they get orders to make the game live service only to backtrack at the last moment, leaving what was already a pale imitation of an Elder Scrolls game even worse than it wold have been otherwise (see Avowed) or it is limited by selective attempts at realism (Kingdom Come Deliverance series).

*Cough!* Veilguad. *Cough!
Damn, I am chocking.

Andrew Wilson just whined about how it would have succeeded better as live service game.

You know, the game that was pushed in to MMO development, suffered from bad writing, incomplete MMO designs and live service elements left in to it. Apparently it is the lack of "engaging always online elements" that caused it to "fail", after selling "only" 1.5 million copies.

Yep, those quote marks are all necessary.

Their constant attempts to do better only makes them to do worse.

Not surprising though, because dragon age Inquisition (which was terrible btw) had elements of live service. Like you couldn't unlock the next areas until a certain amount of real time has passed, so you had to go mindlessly grind out killing generic enemies until enough time passed.

There's a better one, called Oblivion. It was a more fleshed out RPG and wasn't solely reliable on mods to be playable.

Oblivion is the second worst mainline elder scrolls after arena. And it's definitely not more fleshed out lol, the attributes were watered down to completely useless territory and the world scaling is notoriously the worst in rpg history.
Beginning of the 2010's...gaming found its 'half gamer...half normie...more sales than both' sweet-spot.

Oblivion is the most generic RPG possible. Its like bethsoft fired every writer responsible for Morrowind (they did), then raided a library, took all the fantasy books, boiled them down, extracted the smallest common denominator, and used that residue as a base for their worldbuilding.

Generic IS Skyrim. It took out so much stuff and never replaced it. It makes zero sense as to why Skyrim is held in such high regard, other than ease-of-play and the casualisation of the genre, making it appeal to a larger audience, I just don't get it. And mods should never excuse a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ base game - sorry but facts - and that shouldn't alter the opinion of somebody else or bolster their own bias. The base game is terrible compared to Oblivion and again, mods don't excuse it.

I'm not even going to get further into it because my review of the game says it all. It's not a terrible game, but it falls far short of Oblivion and Morrowind and has been stripped far too much. Not only that, with all of the re-releases we've had you'd have expected at least some bug fixes.
