Bugs fixed in Special Edition?
I used to play Skyrim more than 5 years ago. Back then, Bethesda did a crappy job fixing bugs and seemed to leave bug fixes to people making mods. Is the remastered Special Edition any better? I'm thinking about playing it on my Surface Pro, so the enhanced graphics of this special edition aren't a selling point for me. I can still play the original version through Steam if it's no better than before.

As far as that goes, there isn't much of a difference between the two versions as regards bugs and glitches. After SSE came out, I first played it in vanilla, and the same quest bugs and glitches were still there. I don't think Bethesda did much in the way of fixing things, but they may have adjusted game mechanics a little bit prior to SE's release. All the updates that Bethesda have done with the game are simply to further their Creation Club end of things, and haven't done anything with buggy quests. Hence, the need for The Unofficial Skyrim SE Patch, and the Engine Fixes. SE is more stable because it addresses memory better than LE, since it's 64-bit as opposed to LE's 32-bit. Less crashing, although it doesn't eliminate it entirely. But, ultimately, it's your choice.

Nope, you nailed it in your OP. BGS basically didn't fix anything. this is oldrim with some upgraded textures patched to work with the upgraded FO4 engine.

That said I will point out that the changes for the new engine make the game play a lot better than oldrim. Memory management, multi threading... All of the fixes under the hood are the real reason to upgrade. The game simply plays much better, but you are correct it is the same game.
