Can't play game after newest update
So apparently Skyrim SE got a new version or something a while back and the script extender doesn't seem to work with it (I got the newest one).
If I download the one for SE it tells me it's outdated or something, and if I download the one for whatever the newest version is called (Anniversary edition?) It tells me to download the one for SE. Help.

Assuming you are running the latest version of Skyrim SE, you will want the Anniversary edition of SKSE, and every mod you download is gonna have to be compatible with AE (regardless of if you payed for the AE Edition or not).

To be more specific your mods with a .dll plugin mods need to be compatible with your version of the game so if you have Net Script Frame Work installed and since that mod has not been updated for game version 1.6.353 it will not work.

Most common however is any mod that relies on SKSE of which the vast majority of the most commonly used have been updated so they are easy to find.

Both versions of SKSE give me error messages upon launching them though :mbnyufufu:
I really wish Bethesda would stop breaking the game without adding anything to it.

As said - because you also need to get your mods right

A good rule of thumb (but it's not perfect so ....buyer beware)

1. Open Skyrim Special Edition\Data\SKSE\Plugins and check the date on your skee64.dll. (Edit Add). Obviously you want the best version for your game version.

2. Sort the folder by file type and check if ALL your .dll files are AFTER the date of the above. Here is where the buyer beware comes in.

3. If you have the Address library mod. They may NOT HAVE TO BE. Another is they May be VERSION INDEPENDANT.

****Check their mod pages to confirm either of these scenarios or for updates specific to your skse version.****

Also skse itself has a dll with a version in it make sure ONLY the latest dll is present.

Turns out Requiem, which I consider essential to any Skyrim playthrough is incompatible with AE changes so I decided to downgrade the game to 1.5.97, which is convenient 'cause then I don't have to look for updates for all my other mods as well. Hopefully this'll work out nicely. Thanks, guys!

I did indeed have Net Script Framework installed. I doubt it's what caused the SKSE error message telling me to get the correct version of SKSE no matter what I did, but it's good to know.

Thanks for the heads up. Gonna delete the newer one now.

Yes, that's why I didn't mention SKSE64 in regards to Net Script Framework.

Hm, I read that the creation club content hasn't been reqtified. Nevertheless, everything seems to be working perfectly fine with 1.5.97 so I'm sticking to it.

Yes indeed. Matter of fact this is from the Requiem mod page:

"A note to those who didn’t update their SSE installation to the new update published alongside the Anniversary Edition yet: Requiem should also work on the previous SSE build without problems, but we only officially support the latest build for the Anniversary Edition."
