Without Unofficial Patch
How playable is the game without the unofficial Skyrim patch? Super buggy or barely noticeable bugs?

Its in the barely noticeable category.

See the PINNED TOPIC regarding the Unofficial Patch for an explanation of what the Patch fixes and why. Simply put, it fixes literally thousands of bugs, particularly some serious game breaking bugs:

And its first post for a nice summing up as to why it is needed:

And anyone who says that bugs are barely noticeable, has not been around the forums enough to see all the bugs that are caused by people NOT using the patch - I can pretty much guarantee that if you are one of the people who encounter a game breaking bug because you did not use the Patch (and there are a number them - as pointed out in the above PINNED TOPIC), you most definitely will notice and you will not consider them to be "barely noticeable."

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm....

Since the game does not ctd every 5 min, the patch must do something.

Speaking from my experience on the Xbox 360 - You might not encounter much while playing but then be hit by something irreversibly game breaking that could have been avoided using the patch.

Anyone playing this on PC/XB1 should be using the patch if nothing else.

Using the patch is worth it even though it does introduce a few issues of its own (like attacks from giants throwing the target a mile in to the air). Despite them, I consider the patch close to essential if not actually so.

Ok, thanks!

The main point is you could play it no question, however when it goes wrong it often is quest or even game breaking so I rather have the unofficial patch installed

Giants throwing you into the air has always been in the game, it is not a issue of the mod.

Must be coincident then as I've been playing for many years but only saw it when I recently decided to try the patch. I've also seen a lot of other things that I never have before like the headless horseman. Also many people saying lines I've never heard.

Agree with others regarding the Unofficial Patch. I used it on Xbox as well. I just don't see myself playing without it anymore. I did play without it for a while on Xbox and understand anything people say about what it changes. But I enjoy the changes as most are for the better and none for the worse unless you miss taking advantage of exploits. But just as important is the fact that a very large number of popular mods require the USSEP be installed. Some simply will not work without it.

This. And most of the changes made by the unofficial patch are less "bug fixes" and more "Arthmoor hates this design decision Bethesda Made" category of "fixes".

I think there are a lot of decent fixes. I use it. But looking through the uesp list of changes, I can see why I only noticed a single hand full of them on my last unmodded playthrough.

Unmodded is viable. What the other posters in this thread perhaps don't understand is that people new to PC might struggle to get the achievement unlocker working and may be really wanting to go through their first playthrough unmodded. And tbh they will do fine unmodded these days.

Rumors get started and then parroted. I don't see this as being true at all. Actually, if anything it's more so that many people hate the fixes that the USSEP team made. That's another thing, it's a team effort, it is not all Arthmoor. I have seen more people complain about exploits no longer working than anything, and those are at least admitting it.

Getting these mods that reinstate the ability to earn achievements as you normally would is actually quite simple. Also, the fact remain this was Bethesda's call to remove that ability not the USSEP Team's call.

Many Mod author's will continue to require the USSEP in order to utilize their mods. Ever think they just might know something? Ever stop to think they just might want their mods to have a better chance of working properly so they continue to make the USSEP a requirement?

Bottom line is really simple, if you don't like the changes do not use the USSEP. If you don't mind the bugs don't use the USSEP.
