And its first post for a nice summing up as to why it is needed:

And anyone who says that bugs are barely noticeable, has not been around the forums enough to see all the bugs that are caused by people NOT using the patch - I can pretty much guarantee that if you are one of the people who encounter a game breaking bug because you did not use the Patch (and there are a number them - as pointed out in the above PINNED TOPIC), you most definitely will notice and you will not consider them to be "barely noticeable."
Since the game does not ctd every 5 min, the patch must do something.
Anyone playing this on PC/XB1 should be using the patch if nothing else.
Giants throwing you into the air has always been in the game, it is not a issue of the mod.
This. And most of the changes made by the unofficial patch are less "bug fixes" and more "Arthmoor hates this design decision Bethesda Made" category of "fixes".
Unmodded is viable. What the other posters in this thread perhaps don't understand is that people new to PC might struggle to get the achievement unlocker working and may be really wanting to go through their first playthrough unmodded. And tbh they will do fine unmodded these days.
Getting these mods that reinstate the ability to earn achievements as you normally would is actually quite simple. Also, the fact remain this was Bethesda's call to remove that ability not the USSEP Team's call.
Many Mod author's will continue to require the USSEP in order to utilize their mods. Ever think they just might know something? Ever stop to think they just might want their mods to have a better chance of working properly so they continue to make the USSEP a requirement?
Bottom line is really simple, if you don't like the changes do not use the USSEP. If you don't mind the bugs don't use the USSEP.
